  • Dents easily when dropped by the deliveryman, also missing most of the RFID tokens
Pros: - Nicely padded inside - instructions are rather straightforward - Seems solid (and heavy) enough to discourage smash-and-grab burglars - Fits under the bed nicely - Holds an AR-10, several mags, and probably a handgun comfortably Cons: - Corners dent easily when the deliveryman drops them - Missing all RFID tokens but the wristband - Box had been previously opened, because all of the tape was cut - Makes a bang like a hammer against a metal pail when it's unlocked - Comes with foam blocks that are difficult to stick a rifle in First off, this is going to do what I bought it for: to keep unauthorized users away from the bang sticks, while leaving the bang sticks easily accessible in a hurry, should they be needed. This is good, and why I'll keep it. The RFID works (at least, on the one token that came with the kit, the bracelet, which, thank God, is the one I wanted most), and makes it easy to open quickly. Programming was a snap, once I re-read the directions and realized that the RFID chip was in the buckle side, not the badge side. Programming the combination was equally simple, once I realized that I had to hit the big H to lock the program in. Moral: READ THE DIRECTIONS THOROUGHLY. About the horrible *bang* that accompanies unlocking: if you use two hands - put one on the locking knob, and use the other to unlock, you can easily unlock the box quietly. It takes only one or two attempts to figure out how, and it does take two hands, but it would be worth it in a tactical situation when you need a weapon to deal with an intruder. I'm disappointed about the materials that had obviously been removed from the blister pack in my safe, and sad for the deliveryman who dropped it when it slipped out of his hands literally on my doorstep, but it's a good locker, and will do me for a while at the very least. ... show more

  • Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Gun Locker – Functional but Noisy
I recently purchased the Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Gun Locker, and while it effectively serves its purpose, I have a few reservations about its performance. What I Liked: Secure Storage: The locker provides excellent security for my AR and keeps it safely stored away from unauthorized access, which is my top priority. Easy Access: The RFID technology allows for quick access with the included wristband or key fob, making it convenient in case of an emergency. Sturdy Construction: The build quality is solid and durable, giving me confidence that my firearm is protected. What Could Be Improved: Noise Level: The locker is quite loud when it opens, which can be an issue if you're trying to be discreet. In situations where silence is crucial, this might be a significant drawback. Overall Impressions: The Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Gun Locker is a reliable choice for secure firearm storage, but the noise level when accessing it can be a concern. If you prioritize security and quick access, this locker is a solid option, just be prepared for the sound! ... show more

  • Awesome safe and definitely sturdy enough to withstand my kids! Awesome safe and definitely sturdy enough to withstand my kids!
I absolutely love this safe! I set it up under my king size bed and used the cable to lock it to the bed frame. It is a PITA to get my guns in and out because I have to lie down on the floor, but that's the point and I don't mind. It is amazing that I can access it via 3 different methods. My wife and I use the RFID sticker on our phones and I have one on my key-chain. I setup the PIN access to the same PIN as my handgun safe so we can just remember 1 PIN. And last but not least it has a key so both of us have it on our key-chains as a fail-safe. I can't say enough good things about this safe. My AR-15 (LMT MARS-LS) is huge and it fits easily once I remove the but-stock and put it on the side. My wife's AR is a Colt EPR and we can easily fit both inside with optics, laser and flashlight attached to both. Also, I can store tons of mags and ammo inside if I wanted. One more thing, my handgun safe takes batteries and this safe has a power adapter or battery option. I have gone with batteries for it since I set a 6 month alert and change them both out at the same time even if they're not dead, so I can preemptively nip the possibility of dead batteries in the bud. Buy it already!!! ... show more

  • Very happy with the gun locker
First off this is product is not intended to protect from fire or theft. It is a solid product but its purpose is to house firearms you may need to access quickly while keeping them out of the hands of children. If you attach the steel cable that comes with the gun locker to a secure anchor point you will slow down a burglar. If you have room to store ammo in it you will also make it much harder to steal. I really like this product. It is well made and the RFID system works very quickly and efficiently. The reason I rated at 4 stars instead of 5 is that the instructions that come with the product need improving plus Hornady does not offer a YouTube video to help the user to learn how to program the RFID tags used to open the safe. A few tips: The wristband RFID tag programs at the buckle, not the metal plate. The button for programming the tags is located on the inside of the door at the left end The location of the sensor that you need to have the RFID tags near while programming is on the front of the door in the middle ... show more

  • Super quick access!!!
I like that it is universal and can be used in multiple home or vehicle situations. This will slow down those who just want a quick smash and grab if you actually bolt it down. It also comes with a cable. Quick access with the RFID. Door opens itself when horizontal on the ground. If you mount virtically you will need to pull the door open after it unlocks. The keypad works fine but I will never use unless the RFID doesn’t work for some reason. When the door unlocks it’s LOUD. So if you don’t want to alert people of your presence you may want to leave it open when you go to bed. I don’t like that the door lip isn’t flush. It seems easier to pry. The power cord is very short it won’t reach to the other side of the safe without an extension cord. But the fact that is has one is a nice touch. It does let you use backup battery’s just incase you loose power or don’t have access to an outlet. (Note you must press a button to wake up the safe in battery mode before using RFID) When it’s on the floor it’s hard to remove the rifle quickly without hitting the door and the door isn’t padded to help avoid scratching. Virtically this doesn’t seem like an issue. I also don’t think you can quickly access two rifles while mounted on the floor but you can squeeze two rifles in there. If vertical and you remove the foam you could probably fit 4. The foam inserts are cut only to hold barrels. You might be able to squeeze in a buffer tube but it is tight and will be difficult to remove in a rushed situation. I cut mine to fit my hand guard and stock. These are not fixed and they can move around slightly when pulling your rifle out or pushing it in. No interior lights. Lots of extra room for ammo, mags, handguns etc. Overal for the money it’s a great product and does what I need it to. (Side note about shipping) it was shipped in the display packaging and that did not hold up great so the box was open on my porch when it arrived and it was advertising what it was to anybody walking by. If the parts weren’t shipped inside the safe and the keys were not zip tied to the handle I garuntee it would all be lost somewhere. Make sure to ask amazon not to ship it like that. I already called them about it. ... show more

  • Great! Loud but easy to remedy.
Love this safe. I had to move my big safe out of the house because we were having a baby and needed to turn my gun room into a nursery. This safe seemed to be perfect for my needs. It is built well, has nice handles, and hydraulic dampers for opening. I keep a full size pistol, Taser 7, 2 carry pistols, one PDSW and a patrol rifle in the safe. I removed the foam inserts to create enough room. The numerous ways to access the safe are super helpful. It's slim and fits under the bed. The one downside is that it is NOISY to open. The electric motor whirs and the metal latches clack open. Then the sound of a spring resonating lasts for several seconds. It's enough that I wake up my wife if I need to open it. I fixed this by opening the back of the door and adding sticky foam to the tension spring and the sides of the locking lugs. I also opened up the motor gearbox and found it completely dry. I added lots of Teflon gearbox grease to the plastic gears. Now the opening process is MUCH MUCH quieter, although far from silent. ... show more

  • Good safe for the price.
Over all I’m happy with this safe. I had to return the first one though. Something was wrong with the keypad. Even with batteries installed it didn’t work. Amazon sent me a replacement and it is working great. If this changes in the near future I’ll comeback and update my review. Pros: depending on what guns you have it can hold more than two rifles/shotguns. I have a two 22 long rifles, MP shield and a Bullpup shotgun. All of them fit. I only had to adjust the foam. Even with the guns I could fit all my ammo and extra mags in there. (I don’t keep a lot of ammo so it is enough for me) It doesn’t take up a lot of space. I have it vertical next to my nightstand. Con. It is loud. If you are looking for something that opens quietly don’t get this. I was not worried about this but I can see why some else wouldn’t want that. I don’t like that all the RF tags are marked with the safe logo. If I wanted to leave one laying around, anyone who wanted to get into the safe would know it was a key. I’m mainly worried about my kids opening it so this is a big turn off for me. I’ve decided to hide one somewhere I doubt they would ever look. I’ve locked the rest in the safe. I would give it 5 stars but I did have to return one so if it holds up I’ll adjust it to 5 stars. Even if the keypad goes out again, it’s still a good safe. My main point I own it is to keep them in a safe place away from my kids. It does that so I’m happy with it. ... show more

  • A mixed bag. Wasted space, some other things to dislike.
I prefer having several small, lightweight safes to a single 600 lbs one. They are easier to squeeze into tight spaces and move around - and let you have firearms or other valuables within reach in different parts of the house. Such safes offer relatively little protection against targeted burglaries or fire, but if you're spending $2k to protect some Hi-Points and a passport, you're probably overthinking it. Anyway, this is a solid and reliable safe with some gimmicks (such as the ability to unlock it with a wristband / keyfob / sticker - something you probably don't want to set up if you have kids or if you don't sleep with your car keys) - but it otherwise works well and opens reliably; AC power with battery backup is a nice touch, too. That said, there are several things I dislike. The first problem is the awkward form factor, only exacerbated by weird foam inserts. The safe is deep enough that it could easily accommodate two rows of long guns with scopes, for a total capacity of four rifles or shotguns. But this is doable only if you mount it vertically and remove the inserts altogether (which is really not the "design" direction - leaves the keypad oriented pretty awkwardly). That way, you can have guns leaning against the opposite walls. If the safe is mounted horizontally, you get two choices: 1) Use the inserts to stack two rifles on top of each other. But the cutouts in the inserts are very shallow, leaving most of the space in the rear unused. In fact, the cutouts in the inserts are shallow enough that it might take some fiddling to fit rifles with pistol grips or bulkier stocks. 2) Remove the insert and place the rifles on the "floor" of the safe - but this way, you can't stack anything on top without risking damage - that is, unless you put the guns in socks and give up on quick access. Basically, in its intended mounting position, you're always leaving more than half the space unused. Makes me wonder why they haven't made a smaller two-rifle safe, or one with a pull-out drawer, or something like that... Some of the other annoyances include: 1) A pretty flimsy keypad with limited tactile feedback - probably the worst keypad of any safe I've ever owned. 2) No auto-locking when you close it. Instead, you need to operate an awkward, recessed plastic knob that takes quite a bit of force to turn - again, the worst of any safe I've ever bumped into. 3) A *ridiculously* loud unlocking mechanism (seriously, it's a loud "bang!", can make your ears ring in a confined space). ... show more
