  • Versatile and Solid Budget Tripod
I've had this tripod for about a year now and it has never disappointed. I've used it to hold a small mirrorless setup all the way up to as an 8 lb 4x5 press camera. Whenever I lock the tripod down, it stays exactly where I set it. The large format is definitely on the top end of what the ball head can do without starting to creep but its definitely still usable with that load. Its handled plenty of dirty, wet, and sandy conditions and with minimal maintenance its held up just fine. ... show more

  • An Amazing Surprise!
As soon as I opened the box and removed the heavy canvas carry bag from the tripod, I knew then and there, this would become my MAIN tripod. There are too many ways to use this tripod to put here. One of the best options is the horizontal positioning which will allow me to switch from tall to small in a matter of minutes without the need to carry 2, 3, 4, or more, tripods to everything this one can do. This pod will give me the added horizontal arm feature to shoot old B&W and COLOR photos stored from the film era and convert them to a digital format. Simple, quick, FUN! Definitely worth the price. What I love most about the pod, "twist" locks made of metal and NOT plastic "clips" that break after only a few months of exposure to the salt air of my home island. If you're looking for a new, or additional tripod, you definitely be looking here! ~Alexa Shaw, Photographer ... show more

  • Strong, inexpensive, but not perfect.
October 16, 2018: First review on this tripod! Three stars for what should be a five star product. Read below to see why. I bought this tripod for my new DSLR. It's not expensive, and it seems very sturdy, but there are a few caveats... PROS: -Inexpensive! I paid roughly US$50 for this tripod, and sadly I've paid much more for much less! -63" is actually pretty tall. Further, on my hardwood floor at least, it seemed pretty stable even fully extended. -The ball is advertised as 36mm, which is larger than most at this price point. The ball locks down VERY firmly. I'm not a small guy and it doesn't move without great force (more than I expected!) I've had much more expensive tripods that had ball "drift" where the ball can't stay put with a DSLR and heavy lens attached. This one feels much better! -The twist locks on the legs lock up very firmly. I'm over 200lbs and pressing down quite hard failed to collapse them. Slower to lock/unlock than the "quick release" clamp style but in my experience, a more secure lock. -The joint locks seem quite good, for what they are (read more below about this). -The horizontal mode is nice! You would probably spend twice, even four times as much, to get this sort of utility. CONS: The center column lock does not lock down as securely as the rest of the tripod. It uses a thumb screw to tighten a plastic (wish it was metal!) collar and without risking stripping the threads, I could not get it tight enough to keep the center column from sliding downwards when I applied weight on top. Yes, it will probably support my DSLR and even a good telephoto. Most probably won't extend the center up anyway (it seems more for horizontal use and upside down). Would I trust it with my DSLR attached upside down? Probably not. The leg joint locks aren't even cheap spring loaded thumb levers, like found on many similarly priced tripods. They are actually like plastic squares that penetrate the inside of the leg. You must grab it with finger AND thumb and pull it away from the lock to get the leg to move. Similarly, you must press it back in place to engage the cogs on the lock. No springs involved. It works well enough, I suppose, but I think the spring tab style locks that you can disengage with a simple press of your thumb are a superior design, faster and easier at least. I took two stars off for those two "cons" on what otherwise is a pretty good value. It's strong and stable, relatively inexpensive (for this height and load capacity), seems well made, with actual metal in places where cheaper tripods would use plastic, and has a pretty uncommon feature in this price range, an option to go horizontal with the center column. Last but not least, it's a huge pain to get it to fold back up again compact enough to easily fit back in the carry bag! Important for my type of photography is a tripod that is quick and easy to deploy and put away again. Many of my shots are of wildlife that don't stay put for long. A bigger bag might have been better. Probably sending it back. ------ UPDATE October 17, 2018 -------- Seller reached out in less than 24 hours after reading my review and has refunded my purchase price and told me to keep the tripod anyway! They have also said they will send me an improved center column lock screw. I'm bumping my review up to four stars for incredible customer support and will leave it that way if the screw does indeed fix this problem! I still wish the joint locks on the legs were easier to use (but they seem to work well enough) and I wish the included bag was slightly larger: I did finally figure out how to get the tripod folded back up again in exactly the right way to place it back in the bag. I suspect there is only one right way and I'll include a photo soon showing how to do it (think "puzzle", like a simpler sort of rubik's cube!) This could have been easily alleviated by making the bag slightly larger. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT QUALITY.
Great tripod – a little bit on the heavy side. Extremely versatile – I love the compact shape. you can see it is high-quality and well made. The only thing that I have a little difficulty with is the rotating tings for ectending the tripod legs – it is sometimes confusing which way you need to rotate - to tighten them or loosen them up.It is a bit taxing on the wrists of a smaller hand… Otherwise it’s excellent product in every way ... show more

  • Flimsy and cumbersome
I was disappointed in the quality of this tripod. The feet have to be unscrewed to extend them, and it's a very cumbersome and slow process every time. It's also very flimsy and I didn't feel comfortable leaving my DSLR on it unmonitored. I returned this item.

  • Sturdy so far!
This has been a game changer in my video recording. I've been trying to record over head videos for the longest time using cheap tripods, desk mounts, etc. The material and quality of this tripod is heavy and definitely sturdy. I didn't need to read the manual because I think it is rather straightforward on how to use it. The carrying case is nice quality and it comes with another drawstring bag to protect the ball head (I think. I haven't used it but I can only imagine based on the size of the bag that it is for the ball head mount). Overall, the price is great and it does what it needs to do. I really like this tripod. It's definitely heavy duty for my needs. ... show more

  • Good lower end tripod for most people
My wives real cameras go on her real tripods. This tripod is for holding my much less bulky camera, smart phone and/or lights depending on the job. That being said the only part I do not like about this set is that the legs do not have any feedback on if they are locked fully, so I would be afraid of one of more of the legs slowly or quickly going down and tipping the camera. I do like the feature on the tripod that allow you to mount the camera under the tripod, to the side of the tripod and over it. There is a spring weight clip on the pod that will hold a sand bag for stability. Moving and locking the head of the pod for your camera/gear mount is easy and the locks on this part are very solid feeling. ... show more
