  • A VERY nice unit
Size: 50 Pint Style: Built-In Pump
This would be 5 stars, except for a missing part. However, the manufacturer was VERY responsive and quick to solve the problem. I'll give the whole experience 4.8 stars. This is a very nice, efficient dehumidifier that removes moisture very well, up to 50 pints per day. That's over 6 gallons! I have it set up in my basement (~1900 sq ft) and it has made a huge difference. It is so good that you will want to use on of the two drain options, otherwise you'll be emptying the large tank often. One is a short, gravity drain hose (appx 3 ft.), and the other is a pump-driven system with a longer hose (appx 16 ft) that enables the drain to be ABOVE the dehumidifier- think stationary sink. Honeywell says NOT to use a different or longer hose with the pump feature. Using the pump feature, the tank will ALWAYS be almost full, as the pump siphon only drains the top couple inches of the tank. I'm not sure I like that, as the water could get stagnant over time, IMHO. I'l. have to keep an eye on that, and report back. The tank is bypassed when using the gravity drain, so that won't be a problem. I had an issue with the "Pump" feature not working. I chose to use the pump feature as I wanted to locate the unit farther away from my sump-pump basin, so I wasn't constantly recycling that water. After contacting JMATEK/Honeywell, we determined that the issue was a missing washer in the connection- see pics. They immediately shipped me a new one, and it arrived very quickly. A+ on customer service! PROS: Powerful- up to 50 pints per day Efficient- Energy Star 5.0 compliant QUIET Easy to use, set up CONS: It REALLY likes to be level. If you're having issues with proper drainage, check for proper level Standing water when using the pump. Might not be an actual problem, but I'm not crazy about it All-in-all, I'd buy it again. ... show more

  • Worst. Software. Ever.
Size: 3000 Sq. Ft Style: Smart Dehumidifier
I've been an Amazon customer for ten years and I think about eight years ago I wrote a review. After owning this product less than a day, I'm compelled to write another. This product is garbage. The software was designed by a kindergartner and probably written by a developer fresh out of boot camp. Or maybe it was designed by a software developer fresh out of boot camp and written by a kindergartner. My fingers will wear out before I can write all the things that are wrong with this unit. The fan intake is on the back of the unit so it has to be placed 17" from a wall (per the manual). Why bother making a small unit when it takes up as much floor space as a big unit? My old GE humidifier had the intake on the front and it could be placed flush against a wall. It's probably twice as big (with twice the capacity) but has a smaller footprint. You know you are in trouble when the manual insert implores you to not return the unit until you call some third party. That's an omen of a crappy out-of-the-box experience in your near future. Sure enough, when trying to connect the unit to my network, I scan the manual to find... nothing. Not a word about how to use the smart feature. Not even a word about where to find how to use the smart features. Oh well, I head up from the basement and Google to find an answer. I find a site that tells me how to find the app (hint: the word "dehumidifier" is nowhere in the app name). I win the "where's waldo" challenge and I install it. Then things took a turn for the worse. First up: create an account. Yep, another appliance that wants to know all about me in order to do the basics. Sigh. Oh well. I give them my email (their kindergartner developers don't know how to configure email input fields, so it wants to capitalize my email address -I fight and win that battle), they send me a code , I enter the code and then have the joy of selecting a password. I use my password generator to generate a password and paste it in twice. No good. And here's the worst part : there are six specific requirements for your password and the ones you meet are shown in blue on a white background -I can see what I did right. The requirements I didn't meet are shown in very light gray on the white background in a tiny font. I wonder at the effort required to design something so spectacularly ill-suited for purpose. I actually had to find a magnifying glass to learn of my failed requirement (passwords must have a special symbol from a specific set of allowable symbols). I win the password battle. I'm now into heart of the app -adding a new device. A truly miserable experience. First challenge: get the humidifier in pairing mode. Nothing in the accompanying printed manual (recall there's really nothing about smart features in the manual). No obvious button in the panel. No guided instructions. I go back upstairs and call the phone number of the company that wants a chance to deflect reviews like this one (also, claims to be the support number). Sorry, M-F 9-5 only. It's Friday night. Scour the manuals again -nope. Poke through the app... YES, pairing has timed out in the app and behind it I can see, in a tiny font (blue this time, at least) "Make sure your device has entered pairing mode". The kindergartners must have belatedly realized that there was no other documentation so they needed to provide in-app documentation. Good for them. Too bad nobody actually gave them the documentation, because the instructions are generic and the first sentence includes this gem: "Please refer to the instruction manual for specific instructions." I'm sympathetic because this is hard for kindergartners -but if ever I found out the developers were adults, I would accuse them (and their product team) of being sadists. I go back to Googling. There are multiple Honeywell-labeled manuals for this product and I finally find an older one that at least mentions what the display looks like -and with the help of a YouTube video I figure out how to put the unit in pairing mode (tap the clock button six times, obviously). This app is even more poorly conceived and executed than the app for the $40 LED light bar (Made in China) I bought six months ago. ... show more

  • I bought two of these a year ago, and I am very glad I did in this heat!
Size: 50 Pint Style: No Pump
I bought two of these. One sits in the basement with a hose to a drain in the floor. The other one is in the kitchen with no hose. I have to empty it several times a day in the summer. Dumping out the water two (or three) times a day is okay. It's in the kitchen, and we all go to the kitchen. It's amazing to me that this thing is pulling gallons of water out of the air we breathe every day. Even with the air conditioning, the house always felt muggy on humid days. No more! This thing has saved me a lot of money. We actually put the thermostat up 2 degrees because with this dehumidifier, the air feels so cool and nice we don't know how we got on without it. Neither of the dehumidifiers have needed any service except for cleaning the air filter once in awhile, which you do in the sink. You don't need to purchase any filters. I can't say enough how much cooler and pleasant it is in our house since I purchased these work-horses. I highly recommend them. I don't regret at all buying two of them. ... show more
