Purchased this item on Amazon on May 18th 2019 and had it professionally installed about a month later by our HVAC contractor. Unit functioned well until a few days ago when the display began flashing screens rapidly and randomly. We had our HVAC technician come in. He checked the power, found it correct, and replaced the unit with the original thermostat he had removed to install this programmable unit. The original thermostat immediately functioned properly and continues to do so. Just got off the phone with Honeywell, deeply dissatisfied with their requirements before they will honor their one year warranty. The customer service person said they could not give me an RMA to return the unit for warranty replacement unless we provided a picture of us with a volt meter showing the voltage reading or a sworn statement from a technician documenting power testing. As we are not HVAC or electrical professionals, it is entirely inappropriate to force on us the choice to pull the original thermostat professionally re-installed to replace this defective unit, purchase a power meter, and test the power OR pay a technician more than the cost of the unt to return, do so, and make a written statement. Buyer beware. A warranty is useless if it costs you more to exercise it than the value of the warranteed item. All we asked was an RMA to return a defective unit which Honeywell is in a position to test and replace. What we got was an obvious attempt to make replacing a defective unit so onerous and expensive a task that no sensible person would do so. OK, I purchased a fancy Wi_Fi cool looking thermostat that are so popular right now, but my home does not have a C-Wire. The c- wire kit I bought to go with the thermostat, you had to go into the furnace itself and wire it in. Just way too scary and didn't want the expense of hiring someone to do it so I returned all of it. With this thermostat YOU DO NOT NEED A C-WIRE. It runs on batteries! I easily wired it in myself. Please before you remove your old thermostat take several pictures of how it is wired in, the colored wires and which lettered hole they are stuck in. You will want to know later! The one mounting hole is dead center and of course that's where the wiring comes down inside the wall, so when I predrilled the hole in the drywall, I kept my finger between the back of the wall and wiring as the drill bit eased through. I didn't want the drama of drilling into and damaging the wiring. This unit has several settings for the times of the day and night if you want to use the schedule which was why I wanted this. It will auto turn up or down your thermostat to your preference. Just go to the back of the booklet and pay attention to the 3 digit codes when programming. Makes things a lot easier. So anyway I've had this for about a month and still very happy with it! ... show more

Selected this thermostat since it has some of the latest tech but doesn't require a C wire. Installation was easy, but follow directions as this unit does not need jumper wires used in some older thermostats. Thermostat has worked very well once all of the settings got sorted out and it had time to "learn" the HVAC system. Be careful and go through all of the settings on first setup to make sure your system matches the settings. Don't assume the default settings are all OK. Even if the don't have a newer more efficient HVAC system, still use the settings for one when you go through the settings on initial startup. Ours is 15 years old and performs better on the high efficiency settings for the thermostat. At first, the thermostat was cycling way to quick and often. After calling tech support, I adjusted some of the settings and took their advice to allow the unit 2 weeks to learn and adjust to the system. After that couple of weeks, it was performing flawlessly. Just hope it lasts. One thing I would like to see changed about this thermostat's programming would be the ability to change the wake/away/home/night time settings of the programming to be different for heat and AC cycles. It forces you to use the same for both. This unit assumes that nothing is different in your routine between winter and summer, and certainly doesn't take into account those of us who may be retired and would like the time changes to happen at different times that are typical for working household. ... show more

Purchased this item to replace old thermostat looked like a nice solution without spending a hundred dollars or more for the fancier products. The instruction manual is the greatest but for install was ok. Did call customer service for explanation on how to change the back lighting to remain on for a longer period of time. Unfortunately that was not possible. That really is my only complaint, when you want to change settings you have to quick. only about 10 seconds before screen goes dark and you have to retouch to turn lighting back on. ... show more
