    • Work as expected
Bought a couple of these thermostats to replace old round thermostats that controlled my house's heat. These new thermostats were very easy to install and work perfectly. I like the fact that they are backlit, don't need a C-wire, are programmable and work exactly as expected.

    • Good thermostat
I replaced an old thermostat that is connected to my old furnace. The furnace is over 20 years old and works well for now and the old thermostat was good and simple. When the thermostat failed I decided to go digital and bought this thermostat. The electrical connections were a little bit different but the instructions on the thermostat were good enough for a clean installation. I set it up and it works great. It also interacted well with my old furnace. The interaction of an old furnace with a new thermostat is seamless. The only thing that I don't like is that the thermostat does not tell you when the batteries are failing. The thermostat operation just stops. I woke up one time and the temperature in the bedroom was cold. I felt like I was sleeping outdoors. Then I came down to look at the thermostat and noticed that the screen was blank. I replaced the batteries and then everything was good but it took the furnace a while to get the temperature back up. Overall this thermostat is good and a good buy. ... show more

It's a cheap and easy install as long you stick with the directions. I've installed a couple of thermostats in my life Including The Honeywell T9 Smart Thermostat (which is the best thing I've bought). This is by far the easiest and better quality than other brands

    • Perfect for replacing old mercury thermostats
Super easy to install and a great price. Two screws and anchors included. Just don't over tighten the screws on the backplate when installing into the wall or you may loosen the wall anchors :) Now I can at least control heat in multiple zones for day/night. Since I've only got 2 wires at all mercury thermostats, simply removing the jumper and connecting red & white wires was a breeze. Installed 3 more of these where old mercury style thermostats could only be set for one temp 24/7... It's so nice waking up to a 70 degree bedroom as opposed to 63: the temp my wife likes to sleep at - ugh! Setting up the day/night temp setting is also very easy, albeit a tad tedious :) I've had one of these in the house for over a year and still working fine. I even use rechargeable batteries in these, which don't last as long but taking the cover off is also super easy and I don't lose my settings. Sadly, the previous owner of my home had no forsight and only ran two wire cable throughout the house to all thermostats... Hence no smart home thermostats for me. I'm not interested in adding a bunch of c-wire kits on multiple zones in the house. Plus, I only have heat, A/C during the summer is wall and window units as needed :) ... show more

These Honeywell RTH2300B have been around many years. They've changed slightly over time but they were always inexpensive and reliable thermostats. The backlight was a welcome extra feature. They're now made by Resideo under license from Honeywell and I'm writing this review to warn others about a bad batch or defective manufacturing of the displays used in these. Attached is a pic that attempts to show the discoloration of the bottom right corner of the display. It looks like dust or mildew and appears to be within the display itself. It is not visible when backlight is not on. The thermostat itself seems to work fine otherwise and I would hope this one will last as long as my original Honeywell did but the discoloration is offputting and not acceptable for a new product, and casts doubts on the quality and longevity of this product. I suspected my package from Amazon was an open box sent by mistake as new, so I reached out to Amazon and they quickly sent a replacement. This second replacement was properly sealed and still had the same display issue. A third one bought from Home Depot locally ALSO has this defect. I'm in a bind and need a working theromstat so I'm going to live with the dirty smudgy display. Perhaps consider another brand, or wait a while for this display defect to (hopefully) resolve itself before purchasing. I'm going to reach out to Honeywell themselves and see what they can do. If you're considering buying the RTH2003B beware that as of December 2022 there is a bad batch of displays going around. If they could get their display problem corrected this would be a 5 star review ... show more
