  • Easy to install, works great
I research every product that I buy online. After reading several reviews, I concluded that this was the best choice for my needs. I have a gas furnace and electric central AC. My old thermostat was calibrated about 2 degrees too warm, and there was no way to fix it, so for $23, it was worth buying a replacement. I looked at Lowes, but I didn't see this exact model in the store. I had never replaced a thermostat before, but this was extremely easy. I had my toolbox ready, including a small precision screwdriver, & it took me 7 minutes to install it. There are countless YouTube videos explaining how it's done, but the manual instructions are sufficient. The thermostat works great! It is simple to use. Programming it also dead simple. I like the fact that it doesn't have a hinged door that you have to open. All the buttons are always visible and easily accessible. The only reason I withheld a star in my rating is that the green LED screen has a bit of a smudgy looking flaw in the right 1/3 corner. It's not noticeable unless the screen is lit, but it's still a flaw, so I can't give it 5 stars. However, it works, it's easy to install, & the price is right. I would buy it again. ... show more

  • Unreadable display after 1 month; TWO bad units...see pic below
Gets only 1 star because the screen is TOTALLY unreadable after a month. I was worried the first one (yes, I returned the first one and Amazon exchanged it no problem (thank you Amazon) BUT the 2nd one contained the same screen defect - see the side by side pics I posted.) Wow, seriously Honeywell??? And for $24 are you really going to waste your time trying to contact their Cust Service and wait and wait and wait to talk to someone about their obvious LACK OF QUALITY??? Not me. Time is money so I'm not bothering. Their losing a customer. If they can't even have a 'simple' thermostat manufactured to quality standards, then I'm not about to upgrade to a more expensive one from them. I'm only posting this so that they'll get a FAIR review and so other Amazon customers will be forewarned In their defense the unit is A GREAT PRICE, EASY TO INSTALL and has an 800 # for Qs. That's why it gets 1 star instead of none. IF I hadn't had this problem (with TWO units) it would have gotten five stars. I hope this gets to Honeywell so they can FIX this. I hope you can see in the pic below that there was the same defect in the bottom right of the screen (dark blotches) very visible when backlit. The replacement Amazon sent me was brand new but was already getting difficult to read as was the 1st (the difference is visible in the photo.) ... show more

  • Avoid at all cost!
This thing sucks! You cannot tell what the current temperature is and what the set point is. For some unknown reason the designers chose to display only one number and YOU have to figure out what it means! I've had many programmable thermostats through the years and this is the absolute WORST ONE EVER! Shame on whoever designed this POS! ... show more

  • Good solution if you need to replace a two-wire thermostat.
My apartment's thermostat has gone "kaput" and I decided to replace it myself with the permission of my landlord. He gave me the go-ahead when I told him it would only be $25. The directions were very clear, and thankfully, the old unit I was disconnecting had its terminals marked – I was able to very easily label the wires using the provided label sheet and re-connect them to this new Honeywell unit. There are a few things about this unit that preclude me from giving me a five-star review. Firstly, the inside clips holding the middle plastic panel to the front panel are poorly designed. They don't fasten very well. Next, the thermostat read 80+ degrees (F) for at least a half-hour after I installed it. No, the package wasn't sitting outside in the heat before I brought it in. Eventually it read the proper ambient temperature compared to some meat/brewing thermometers I had sitting around. Lastly, the LCD panel seems to have some sort of dirt or dust from the factory in the lower-right corner. None of these issues make the unit less functional, but it is a clear reminder of how little it costs. Shrug. In the end, I had no issues installing it and it operates my heater (a hydronic/radiant heater, for those in suspense) without issue. ... show more

  • The Thermostat fell apart in my hands
When the thermostat is delivered with both the back, which will be screwed to the wall, and the front with all the visible user controls and screen pushed together, it makes it very hard to disassemble. Instructions of how to pull the two apart were lacking and when I attempted to do this, the whole thing fell apart making it impossible to install. Why would Honeywell ever think about putting the two together prior to shipment? Make it is as easy as possible for the dumb homeowner like me to be able to install it. I should get the back part and be able to screw it into the wall without having to figure out how to get the two apart. Please take this as a suggestion for future shipments. ... show more

  • Ridiculously Difficult to Remove Back Cover Plate for Installation
Installation Step 1: Remove the back panel. I challenge anyone to do this without struggling. When it finally came apart it was at the wrong layer within the unit. It came apart between the green control board and screen. Buttons went flying. Watch the YouTube videos on how to get the thing apart. How can a product be this poorly designed? Honeywell support spent a very long time to decide it was my problem, not theirs. Amazon rep called me within seconds of filling out the return screen and sent email for refund. Guess which electronic brand I will never again buy? ... show more

  • Dead after 5 years
I have 6 of these. They are easy to use but after 5 years, they are all malfunctioning so I will have to replace all 6. That's a big expense for a product that ought to last much longer.
