  • Quiet, effective and easy to use!
I bought this humidifier to replace one (different brand) that had died - and while I loved the old one, it was discontinued and replaced with a model that only had high and low and no medium. I have used this one for about a month now and am so much happier with it than I was with the old one! First of all, it does have the medium setting - but I find that even on high, it is very quiet - quieter than the old one. It runs on high all the time and we are getting better humidity as evidenced by our skin and feeling less "dry" in the morning. It is easier to clean as well - I clean it every week and rinse the filter, and the filter is still going strong. The water container is much easier to refill than the old one as it can sit on its end - the old one had a curved surface that required you to hold on to it when filling and spilled easily. It holds a little less water, and we have to refill it in the morning and before bed as it won't go for 24 hours - but it's so much easier to handle and provides better humidity, so this is an acceptable trade off! It also does not have any annoying lights on it like our old one did - we had to tape cardboard over them as they were way too bright at night. Very happy with this purchase! ... show more

  • Excellent humidifier, but you have to understand how to use it.
I bought this a few months ago. At first I didn't like it and was ready to return it. Then I figured out how to use it. This is an evaporative humidifier and works in a completely different was from the ultrasonic humidifiers I had in the past. There is a large, cylindrical filter inside which absorbs the water and then evaporates it into the air with the aid of a fan. The fan is clearly audible but actually works well as a white noise machine. In our bedroom, which is about 25' x 15', we go through about a gallon of water every 12 hours. Here are some pearls about using this unit: -It MUST be on a level surface. At first I had it on a towel over the carpet in our bedroom. This caused the water to be unevenly distributed in the base which in turn led to the filter not being properly moist. -The filter must be wet at all times. In an ideal world this would happen without any effort on the part of the owner, but that is not the case here. Sometimes the top of the filter dries out, resulting in less evaporation/less humidification. The manufacturer (and other users, in reviews) suggest flipping the filter every time the tank is filled. I find that it's sufficient to do it when the tank starts to empty more slowly (i.e., I don't have to fill it as often), which is about every 5-10 tankfuls. -Sometimes the filter gets so dry you have to remove the filter and moisten it under the faucet (this is especially true if the water in the tank runs out. There should be an automatic cut off, but there isn't). It's a bit messy in that you're not supposed to wring out the filter, so it drips all over the place. -The filters discolors from minerals and particulates in the water. This is normal (hey, it IS a filter) and does not interfere with the operation of the unit. One could easily argue that using a humidifier shouldn't require such a long to-do list, and I wouldn't argue the point. Having said that, once you get the hang of it this unit works extremely well, humidifying the air without coating the furniture the was ultrasonics do. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Excellent Buy but buyer must know how to maintain the wick filter.
We tried two popular humidifiers (popular with Amazon buyers) both proved to be difficut to clean and neither model registered any humidity increase (not a personal feeling but no increase according to two accurate hygrometers.) Like many "popular with amazon buyers" products what the humifiers shared was a low price. We decided to pay more for this big brand humidifier with many high ratings from buyers. After running it for a day, my hygrometers register a 12 degree humidity increase in our 12 x 14 foot cathedral ceiling living room. Running the honeywell three months now, I am not getting nose bleeds from our furnace drying out the room and our skin isn't drying to point of skin cracking on our hands. I deduct a star for Honeywell having a misleading photo in the user guide. It clearly shows a woman wetting the wick filter, bottom only. My spouse did this causing our filter to fail to get wet at the TOP, which MUST be moist always for the humidifier to work. Honeywell knows the photo is incorrect. Hey, it sells the costly filters, at the rate of one a month. the printer makers are out to sell costly ink cartridges with low ink sensors that are set above the halfway point,so owners replace them at the 60 to 50% full level. Likewise, it looks like Honeywell is out to oversell costly filters. This humidifier is simple. Water drops from tank and is channeled past a antimicrobal UV light to the WICK filter, which flows water to the top so the fan can lift it and turn into a fine mist then push it out into the air. TIP. After I explained to my spouse how WICKS work, they last over two months. Each time she fills the tank, she rinses and soaks the filter & flips it to opposite end from where it was in the unit. ... show more
