Waxing is an excellent way to protect wood, but for hive equipment, paraffin is used, not beeswax. I like the construction and the drawer works well, but doubtful the beeswax will last. Beeswax gets brittle in cold and sticky in the heat. I guess I will find out. Would have preferred untreated so i could paint or hot wax dip myself. I only purchased because of the utility, the beeswax was a negative.

I like that this bottom board has a tray underneath, and not just a flat board. This lets me use mineral oil drizzled around to catch mites, ants, and wax moth larvae that fall to the bottom. Also really nice that it comes in 2 sizes, as I've had trouble finding good parts for my 8-frame equipment.

These are amazing and impressed with quality, so glad I took a chance on them will definately be buying more as my colony increases. Fact set up a bee hive with them Friday used DE in the pans for bettles and put a captured swarm in brooder ,looks better and sturdier that ones from Mann bee supply and cheaper.

I really like how this one is assembled. It has a wood frame on top of the screen bottom so the bees can not get cut by it. It is also notched out so that the entrance reducer sits in the notches and cannot get pushed inside the hive. It has a nice metal drawer in it that you can pull out from the back so it can be used in the winter and in the summer. There is no need to change bottom boards.

This screen bottom is the best one I have seen out of five different manufacturers. This one has a metal tray that is about a half inch deep. It closes up very nicely, and does not let in a lot of light. With the tray installed there is no way for the bees to get into the tray. I will definitely be adding this bottom tray to all of my hives. Highly recommended.
