  • On Par in Fit, Function & Quality
Color: 20-Medium-Black
After unboxing, my immediate impression was that these foundation sheets were in line with previous foundation sheets I've purchased in the past. Other than opting for black colored foundation this time, there appeared to be no obvious differences. That initial perception was slightly changed after installing one of these Honey Lake foundation sheets into a frame. Medium foundations are always a bit of a struggle to get into frames so no difference there, however, upon installation, I noticed the foundation fit was slightly looser than I had expected. I pulled the foundation and measured it against one of my other (Non-Honey Lake) foundation sheets and discovered the Honey Lake sheet was 1 to 2mm shorter in height. It's width was spot on with my other foundation sheet. From a materials standpoint, they appear to be made of the same high-quality material as my other foundation sheets. From a fit standpoint, the foundation sheet did fit my frame. In no way was it loose enough to fall out. These foundation sheets work and I rate their fit, function, and quality as acceptable. If these foundation sheets are more budget friendly than what you're currently using, they offer a better value option as well. ... show more

  • Solid Foundation Sheets for Expanding Medium Langstroth Hives
Color: 10-Medium-Black
These medium foundation sheets worked well for setting up additional Langstroth frames and gave the hive a clean, consistent starting point for comb building. The molded honeycomb pattern is clearly defined, which helps guide the bees as they begin drawing out comb instead of building uneven or cross-connected sections. The black color also makes it easier to spot eggs and monitor brood activity during inspections. The beeswax coating seemed to help with acceptance, and the bees started working the frames fairly quickly after installation. The plastic foundation itself feels durable without being overly brittle, so it should hold up well during routine hive inspections, honey extraction, and seasonal maintenance. For anyone managing multiple colonies or expanding an apiary, the 10-pack is convenient for keeping extra frames ready to go. Fitment in standard medium Langstroth frames was straightforward, and the sheets stayed secure once installed. They also feel easier to handle than fully wax foundations, especially in warmer weather where softer wax sheets can warp or become messy during assembly. One thing worth noting is that acceptance can still vary depending on nectar flow, colony strength, and local conditions. Some beekeepers may still choose to add a little extra melted beeswax coating to encourage faster drawing, particularly during slower parts of the season. The plastic material is durable, but traditionalists who prefer fully natural wax foundations may still lean toward wax-only options. For routine hive expansion, replacement frames, or general beekeeping maintenance, these foundation sheets provide a practical and easy-to-use option that balances durability with good bee acceptance. ... show more

  • Decent Beeswax-Coated Foundation for Medium Frames – Minor Variation in Acceptance Speed
Color: 10-Medium-Yellow
I tested these Honey Lake medium beeswax-coated foundation sheets by installing four into a medium super on one of my active hives. The fit in Langstroth frames was good, and the yellow color made it easy to see new comb progress during inspections. The bees accepted most sheets within a few days and began drawing comb along the honeycomb pattern, though one frame was noticeably slower to start. The coating helped with initial recognition, but it felt a bit thinner than some other waxed plastic foundations I’ve used, and there was a mild chemical scent on first opening that dissipated after a day in the hive. Plastic durability was fine for normal handling, and the resulting comb was straight with consistent cells. No rejection or major issues after two weeks. These are a decent, reusable option for medium frames if you want something more durable than pure wax sheets. Just be prepared for slightly slower or uneven acceptance on a minority of frames in some colonies. ... show more

  • The bees approve
Color: 20-Medium-Yellow
Works well. The blackberry flow in the PNW just recently started. I had these foundations put in frames several weeks ago but didn’t have a hive ready for another super until 9 days ago. I checkerboarded this frames and it promptly poured for three days. The pictures are of a frame without any of my own wax added to the foundation. It is a strong colony and they had a new super with 4 frames of pulled comb and 5 frames without and 6 days when they could actually get out and forage at the beginning of a flow. The girls are pulling wax on the foundation without any issues. Normally I would have added a layer of my own wax but I wanted to see how well these would do without. I’m pretty happy with the results. That frame will be full of honey in another week. They didn’t waste time avoiding the new foundation and got right to work. ... show more

  • Perfect shape and size. Ready to use with a beeswax coating the bees seem to take to, fast.
Color: 20-Medium-Yellow
This is a quality set of foundation sheets. The sheets are yellow and covered with a beeswax coating making it easier for the bees to adapt to the sheets and require less energy for them to use them. They arrived in great condition, ready to use. The 20 pack is a good value. They work very well giving the bees a good foundation with a natural feel. They fit perfectly well in the Langstroth frame. It’s a good set of sheets, ready to use, and a great choice for the bees. Can’t go wrong. ... show more
