The battery life isn't as advertised. Brand new, it took 2 full battery charges to do around 0.3 acres. When you hit grass that is just a little too tall the mower shuts off and starts flashing an alert light. The only way to get it to run again is to take the battery out and put it back in again. I had to do that process 25-30 times throughout the course of mowing my lawn and it was just infuriating. I'm kind of regretting this purchase, this was a LOT of money to spend on something so frustrating.

I really feel that there aren't enough reviews out there for the Honda electric mowers. It is likely that either the market is already saturated or there is hesitancy based on the price (although note that a comparable EGO is about the same cost as this mower). I've been using this mower (purchased through a local dealer) for more than 2 months cutting usually twice weekly (rapid spring fescue growth) and will post below my review from the Honda website, including updates. I noted below one review talking about the mower cutting out in high grass. I've not experienced even a slow down in the motor despite load. Increased load will reduce battery life in ALL mowers. My previous EGO was a perfect example of that. So, here is my ongoing review from the Honda site: First look: (1) completed 3 fescue mows at 2 and 3 in heights (2) needed some modification (stand and edge guard). PRO: very good suction, almost like gas; excellent cutting evenness; great mulching; great bagging; more than 30 min out of 8AH battery (more testing required) w/o using self-propel; cuts closer to walls than Nextite deck CON: heavy to push esp thru dense (not high) grass (more than prior EGO 21 in); long battery recharge time as advertised; needs edge guard for steel deck; had to design and build a stand to allow upright storage; self-propel on this mower is a bit finicky (probably need more experience with it); at 92 db should probably use ear plugs; at this price point should have offered purchase option to sub rapid charger or for 12 AH battery even with upcharge at purchase. UPDATE: after twice weekly mulching mows on thick rapidly growing fescue grass, I'd have to say that this mower cuts, mulches and bags the best I've experienced. Cuts are clean, it lifts grass for cutting quite well. It leaves nothing behind even when mulching thick grass. I actually stopwatch timed the 8 AH battery run time - 42 and 46 minutes without self propel. CON: it has shutdown unexpectedly twice with a "3 !" error code. I don't understand since the mower and day was not hot, and air vents were not obstructed. Removed battery and reinstalled to restart. Note that this is covered in page 18 of the manual. Calling Honda and local dealer but not helpful. Apparently there is a diagnostic scan that can be used, but my dealer doesn't have it. Also had to grease the dry left rear wheel axle because it squeaked. In summary after 10 mows- best cutting I've ever experienced; battery run time exceeded expectations; I bought a rapid charger ($180) because sometimes the battery does run out before I'm finished; don't understand why it would shut down spontaneously.... Update today: I have settled at a 2.5 inch cutting height for my lawn and continue mulching once to twice weekly because of growth. This mower virtually never leaves behind any noticeable clippings when mulching. Once again, I have had the mower stop when the battery is near exhausted. I have found that one needs to do a 2-3 second press on the power button before engaging the motor and this allows the mower electronics to sync better. Kind of weird, but I know my old EGO was weird about starting up at times too. In my opinion it is not valid to gauge battery performance by area mowed, but by run time required. If grass is thicker over the same area it will require more time to cut and thus absorb more battery run time. Get a rapid charger and shift workflow to accommodate some battery recharge time.
