The Bagel Guillatine I think that’s what it’s called. I enjoy bagels and coffee in the morning. But I hate cutting them in half. This little tool makes it painless. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because there is no way to lock it and the blades are sharp. It’s a bit cumbersome picking up. I’ve pick up and have almost cut my finger. You have to hold the the top and bottom together. If you pick up the top only it Will dropped to the floor. If your not careful picking up the beagle chopper you can hurt yourself. ... show more

The only curious thing is that although Amazon refers to the manufacturer as "Hoan", there was absolutely no indication on any of the packaging that the piece came from a company named Hoan. Probably not a big deal, because if you look at bagal slicers on Amazon, there are MANY that look identical but are different names and prices. Just seems a little wierd. Bottom line is that this bagel slicer is GOOD, STURDY and SAFE to use. ... show more

My son hates cutting bagels. He is a teen, but has some mild fine motor issues. It is rarely an issue for him, but there are certain things that he finds rather difficult & frustrating. When he uses our very good, very expensive bread knife (that cuts bagels easily), he ends up with a very uneven cut, every time. Instead of 2 halves, he ends up with a very uneven 3/4 & 1/4 cut, despite really trying really hard to cut straight down the middle. On a really bad day, those uneven cuts also have "warps" in them (like a vinyl record left out in the sun). He begged us to buy him a bagel guillotine, so we did. Honestly, we expected the "novelty" to wear off after a couple of months. Instead, he uses it every week, and loves that he can easily get a clean, even cut every time! I know for many this product is seen as a "novelty" item or a novelty gift. But it really is a nice kitchen tool to have for people with fine motor skills issues, and people with arthritis in the hands/fingers who find it difficult to grip a bread knife and then hold that grip while cutting, while using the other hand to hold the bagel steady. ... show more

This bagel cutter works well except on extremely fresh warm bagels (it cuts ~99 % through but I use as bread knife to finish the job). Early on I found this annoying but over time I’ve grown to accept that as real life and use my bagel cutter daily. I still give it 5 out 5 stars and would purchase it again. I read the reviews and knew I would be pleased. I received it and immediately read the enclosed instructions top to bottom, pretty straight forward to say the least. They said that a "collapsing" of the bagel was likely given a couple of factors, freshness, flavored and/or special ingredient blends. True to its word I bisected my first victim. Sure enough the bagel appeared to be being turned inside out, BUT, it in fact was sliced nicely. I looked at the unit and dry sliced air a couple of times and fiddled with it when I noticed that there was just a bit of "play" side to side in the blade part. I grabbed another victim and this time instead of just pushing down straight I "jiggled" or "see-sawed" the blade side to side as I pushed. Viola....NO compression, LESS effort and actually NO additional time required to "jiggle". The blade dropped right through and after a couple of more I found that I only needed this movement for 1/2 the distance and a CLEAN compression free cut time after time. The best only became better.     • This Thing Cuts Like Crazy!

I buy artisanal bakery bagels and they are quite thick as well as dense. I didn't believe this bagel cutter could slice all the way through them, nor did I know if the bagels would even fit in the cavity. Well, they barely fit but they did fit. And once I got the bagel mounted properly, that guillotine blade cut through it like hot butter. Amazing! No more trying to balance the bagel on its side while wielding a sharp bread knife. Fast, too; one shove and the bagel is sliced all the way through. The only downside is that it is a little hard to clean around the sharp blade, since it is embedded within the cartridge for safety. I'll probably have to get a bottle brush or something if it really needs scrubbing. ... show more
