I purchased this to help my dad lift animals off the ground and into the back of the truck to take back up to camp easier as he is getting older and it's harder to do alone. It works great! We actually used it to clean 15 wild hogs and it was a huge back saver. The crank worked great to lift even the larger/heavier guys and the sway lock at the top (not sure it's technical name) was a major help when skinning animals so they were not spinning away from you as you were tugging on them. The bottom portion of the unit that touches the ground helps to stabilize the entire process very well. After loading and unloading, it’s easy to remove it and put it in the back of the truck. Worked great for a good bodied buck. Quick set up, easy to turn the wench and didnt struggle with the weight. Only main complaints and why not 5 stars is wish it came with a carrying bag for once the box it fully opened. You have to take the wench off with wrenches if you want to fully package it back up after first use. Also wish it could go a little taller. Skinning around the front legs had to be done hunched over or on our knees and was difficult to get to neck meat due to the head being on the ground. ... show more

I love this thing! Perfect for skinning deer away from your skinning station. I did take this to a local steel company and had an additional 18 inches welded to it to lengthen it, so I could raise the deer higher. But this thing works just as it says it should! Absolutely love it.

During the summer, I bought a side-by-side to replace my old ATV. I quickly discovered that it's a little tougher to get a large game animal in the back of a SxS than it is to get one over the rack of a four-wheeler. My first deer was a large one for our area, and after struggling to get him loaded into a bed that's well above waist height for me, I was looking for an easier solution. I found it with this hoist. It's pretty simple to assemble, and you can easily break it down into two pieces to fit in the bed of the truck or the SxS. I got another deer a few days after receiving this, and the load was much easier, minus some user error on my part to begin. This hoist is rock solid, and the ball bearing makes it swivel easily, even under a couple hundred pounds. I recommend setting it to maximum height to make it easier to swing the animal. Winch it up, pull the pin and rotate. You're loaded. It comes with a gambrel that will come in very handy for off-season hog hunts where I have to clean them in the field. My only complaint is that it's a bit awkward and bulky to transport. It only weighs about 50 pounds, but it's an awkward 50 pounds. It's not as easy as having a buddy help you throw one up in the bed, but if you're out by yourself, it's a handy tool and well worth the money. ... show more

Man… alright… so let me tell you about this truck hitch game hoist for a second. I picked up the HME Truck Hitch Game Hoist, and I gotta say, this thing might be the greatest invention for hunters since somebody first looked at a deer and thought, “y’know… that’d probably taste great with buttered potatoes.” You slide it right into your truck’s hitch, crank the winch, and suddenly you’re not wrestling 150-plus pounds of venison like some kind of exhausted woodland gladiator. The hoist just lifts the whole situation off the ground—calm, smooth, no drama. Before this thing? Processing a deer meant a lot of grunting, questionable life choices, and the kind of back pain that makes you stare at the ceiling at 3 a.m. reconsidering your hobbies. Now? Man… I just hook it up, start cranking the winch, and the deer rises up like it’s being called into the afterlife by a very polite mechanical angel. The 400-pound capacity means you’ve got plenty of room for the big ones, the gambrel spreads everything properly, and the whole setup feels solid—like it was designed by people who have actually had to deal with a deer at the end of a long day. And the best part? It’s on the truck. No dragging animals to a tree, no sketchy rope situations, no improvising with whatever branch looks like it might hold. You pull up, set the hoist, and suddenly the job is civilized. Honestly, if you hunt and you don’t have one of these yet… man… you’re working way too hard. Five stars.
