This is a nice soundbar with decent sound and very good bass from its 6.5" subwoofer. My first thought after unboxing the soundbar was "wow, this is really thin." If your TV sits on a cabinet, the low profile should let you place the bar below the TV without it getting in the way. The bar itself is 37.75" wide. The subwoofer is 13.6"H, 7"W and 13.5"D. There are a number of connection options, the most important being HDMI ARC (not eARC) and Bluetooth. You'll likely want to use the HDMI ARC connection. This is the preferred way of getting digital sound to the soundbar from your TV. You can use Bluetooth if you want to connect your phone for listening to music while doing chores around the house, etc. and don't want the TV gulping down power for no reason. The soundbar presents itself over Bluetooth as "HW310." According to its label, the subwoofer uses a 6.5" driver, which is pretty good. It's passive, so it has no amplifier inside. The power needs to come from the soundbar itself. The subwoofer has some rubber feet on it to keep it from rattling on the floor during those action scenes. A 24V-2.5A power brick was included which powers everything. Sound quality-wise, it sounds good overall. You get punchy bass from that subwoofer, which is really the star of the show. However, it's clear the system was not designed to operate without the sub. Without it, it sounds far less impressive with pretty much zero low end. Sadly, there isn't much in the way of sound adjustment. There are only 3 EQ settings, and very little bass/treble adjustment. I think it's okay though, as the base sound is fairly well-tuned. There's a small 3-digit LED display in the middle of the bar that shows the status when you change the settings or the volume. The infrared remote is basic, but does the job. Two AAA batteries are included. There are also buttons on the soundbar itself, so if you happen to lose the remote at least you'll still be able to use it. I like that the buttons are on the side. This means you can put the bar directly below the TV and not worry about the buttons being inaccessible. One other thing I should mention is since the subwoofer is passive, it must connect to the soundbar with a wire. If you have the bar mounted on the wall and are going for a super clean look, this will complicate things as now you need to hide this wire. So what are my final thoughts? It's not bad. I really like that bass, although I wish the quality from the soundbar itself was a little better. Even so, the bar+subwoofer will sound a million times better than the speakers in your TV! ... show more

The Hiwill HW240 sound bar with subwoofer upgrades your TV experience by improving the sound quality at an affordable price. This system was easy to set up and comes with all the connections and cables needed, including optical and ARC connections. For the price this is a decent bargain and a worthwhile improvement offering good sound in a small package. Set up was basically unboxing and then connecting the subwoofer to the soundbar, choosing the TV connection that you want and making the appropriate connection and then plugging it in. You may need to go into you TV's system set up to choose the audio output for the soundbar. All in all, it took me about 10 minutes to get this going and I didn't need the instructions as I was replacing another soundbar. I tested out the optical connection which worked great. However, I then set it up with the ARC connection and have just one remote to control the TV and the sound, only using the soundbar remote to make adjustments when I choose to. Both connections worked perfectly fine. The sound quality is decent, and for the size of this soundbar it's actually amazing. I replaced another soundbar with this system and it was a fairly good improvement, in particular with the deeper bass sounds as my previous soundbar did not have a subwoofer. It has several sound modes to choose from via the remote depending on what you are watching or if you are playing video games or listening to music, as well as separate treble and bass adjustments for fine tuning to your preference. In short I am impressed by the sound quality. The soundbar is slim and less than 2 inches tall so it can sit in front of your TV without obstructing anything. As mentioned, for the size the sound quality is quite good. It also is designed to mount on a wall if preferable. My previous soundbar was 1.5 to 2 times bigger and this one has much better sound. Obviously, it won't match the output of a top line soundbar that you pay hundreds of dollars for but if you are just looking for a small inexpensive upgrade for your TV sound you can't go wrong with this one. In my opinion it is a good quality soundbar at this price point and a good starter soundbar that won't break the bank while offering a large improvement over TV speakers.
