I bought five of these to try out in hopes they would do the job. I found over a years time the units all crack the glass they were originally housed in. The ceramic cracked and fell apart. The heater leave an electrical surge to the water ( after it destructs). So far they have not caused harm to my fish. I will replace once I find a product I can count on. edit even outside of the return window they gave me a refund so i am giving a 3 star for the customer service. i bought 2 of these since my old heater died i figured i would buy some extra to replace some of my other ones when i move. i threw two of them in two 55 gallon tanks i set up at the new place to set up and transfer my fish so i don't have to rush and stress them out too much at once. well i get my tanks set and the first batch of fish moved and the display read 76 i figured they was good nope checked the temp with two other thermometers and it was in the 60's in both tanks they won't even heat a 55 gallon tank. well at least they look cool ... show more

This is actually my 2nd heater ...I bought one I believe about a year ago, love it. Its protected by a cage thing, so no outrageous impact if dropped. It tells you the tank temp and your desired temp( mostly the same amount) and if it gets unplugged it will remember what your setting is . Didn’t have it for very long, daughter decided to take it out of the water so it caught fire and all the plastic melted/wiring. So just be careful. Unsure how well it was warming the water but I imagine is was good at that.
