This costume set is what it says it is- a playful hibachi-themed getup meant to bring some flair to the evening, not withstand an open flame. We picked it up for our daughter, who's got a full hibachi chef routine down on the flat grill. Onion volcano, flying eggs, shrimp toss! ...the whole show. She's a performer, and we wanted something fun to match the energy. We knew going in this wasn't real cooking gear. The material is thin, costume-grade satin- think Halloween aisle more than restaurant supply store. But for a themed night of backyard entertainment, it absolutely works. The tall hat brings the visual punch, and the apron completes the look. Just don't mistake it for protective gear; it's strictly a "before and after the cook" vibe. So keep it away from the grill itself and use it to set the tone before the actual cooking begin. If you're expecting real kitchen durability or flame resistance, this isn't the set. But if you're just after some lighthearted roleplay, photos, and fun, it's a decent pickup. It made our little hibachi chef feel like a star. Make sure to pickup the longer apron. The longer apron really adds to the authenticity. The real downside is the lack of an undershirt to tie the set together. Without the undershirt, the set looks incomplete so be prepared to buy an additional piece to reach the full potential. This is why the set gets 3 stars. For us, it looks cool, even has the costume brooch but is ultimately incomplete as a costume which of course affects the value with this. Pros: captures the teppanyaki chef theme fun for the vibes lightweight and easy to throw on over your clothes great halloween knife show- imagine if you will... Cons: very cheaply constructed fabric strictly for costume use not safe for cooking or grilling feels incomplete without an under shirt having to buy an undershirt reduces the value of this pickup Hot Take: A stage prop. It's good for laughs, looks, and lighthearted fun. Just hang it up before the spatulas start flying and don't forget to keep shopping for the authentic undershirt / top because this set doesn't come with on. ... show more
