  • Disappointing- not warm enough
Color: Black/Black Size: 7
Just got back from my first ski trip with these mittens. I struggle with my fingers and toes going numb. My battery operated socks (Snow Deer) were a game changer! These mittens were disappointing though. They were fine when the temps were in the 20’s and 30’s. However, once the cloud cover rolled in and the wind picked up the temps dropped into the 10-15 degree range and my fingers went numb. I put a couple of “hot hands” heat packs in the mitts which helped a lot but since these do not have a pocket for that, the heat packs just rolled around in my mitts which got in the way for holding my poles. They are also very bulky and awkward- a typical issue with mittens. I’m going to try battery gloves next since I had such great results with the socks. ... show more

  • The warmest gloves ever...
Color: Black / Black Size: 10
I asked my nephew, Antarctica explorer (and human with the most Antartica miles to his name on the planet), what gloves / mittens he uses when in Antartica. Answer : Hestra. So I looked at their range of mittens and chose these. The extended cuffs fit nicely over my jacket cuffs and provide protection from the cold. never exposing my wrists. The lining is detachable to allow multiple lining thickness options. They came with attached comfortable thick elasticated wrist bands which stay on your wrists. These can be removed if necessary - but why risk losing them on the chair lift?. The useful carabiner clip keeps them together when not in use. I snowboard 40-50 days a season in temperatures down to -20F and with these mittens, my fingers remain toasty warm. I used to have to wear an inner glove and insulated mitten and they still used to get cold - those days are no more. On warmer days I remove them for a few minutes to let my hands cool down even in below freezing weather. But I soon put them back on! The measurement system is very accurate. These mittens fitted my long fingers perfectly using the distance from wrist to the tip of the middle finger chart. The army goat leather palms seem to withstand the sharp edges when carrying my snowboard. Over the years I have tried countless mittens and gloves systems. In my experience, no other mittens compare. If they are good enough for 50 consecutive days in Antartica then they definitely good enough for when I'm snowboarding in my opinion. ... show more

  • Warmest mitts I own! Hesta's are the best!
Color: Black / Black Size: 9
These Hestra Army Leather Extreme Mitts are hotter than two rats f**king in a Merino Wool Sock! Just take a moment to think about that. I absolutely love Hestra gloves! The quality is what you expect with a glove of this price but they will last for years if you condition with the Hestra Leather Balm. Recently I have also been using Nixwax Leather waterproofing agent on all my gloves and mitts. This particular pair has a removable liner that is attached via velcro to the inside of the glove. Super warm for the cold days. Often times after the run, my hands begin to sweat a bit because they are almost too hot. I have several pairs of Hestra's for all conditions on the mountain and by far, these are my favorite ones for the cold cold days on the slopes. I would highly recommend this glove for weather under 25 degrees F. My hands will never be cold again with these mittens! ... show more

  • Fantastic gloves; worth the price
Fantastic gloves; worth the price! I wore these on a ski trip where windchill were well below zero, and my hands have never been warmer. They were easy to take on and off, and the wrist straps meant I didn't have to worry about losing one off the ski lift. If you need a lot of dexterity, these may not be the best gloves, but they exceeded my expectations for a winter mitten. ... show more
