Description

The Herm Sprenger Black Stainless Steel Prong collar is one of the most recognizable and popular names in obedience training tools. A safe and effective alternative to choker collars, it puts even pressure around the neck, about every half inch, pinching the skin in a band. This collar does not apply direct pressure to the trachea, so you can train your dog with little or no tugging, jerking, or pulling. The addition of a center plate connector allows the middle link to be configured symmetrically, enabling the prongs to tighten in the same direction. Made of high quality German Black stainless steel, the size of this collar can be adjusted by adding or removing the links individually. If I could give it 10 Stars I would
I took in a 7 year old Pitt Mix that had never been walked on a leash. When I would take her potty at our dog park, she would pull me so bad, that I would actually fall down and be dragged through the grass or on the pavement. I was at my wits end for almost a year. I heard about the training vest, then I bought this collar based on customer reviews. What was I waiting for!!! I received it yesterday and brought her for her first walk. OMG, SHE WALKS LIKE. A NORMAL DOG NOW. It does not hurt her or anything!! To say I am shocked at the effectiveness of this is the the least I could say. If I could give this 10 Stars, I would. I actually enjoy walking my dog with this!
I have a very stubborn, strong, 3 year old 100lb Rottweiler. Normally, my husband takes him for walks. However, my husband started a new job at the beginning of year where he travels. He is gone anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months straight. So I am the one who does all the walking duties with him. My boy did go to training, but again he is very stubborn. When I take him for walks, I had started dreading it. He pulls so much and is very strong. I have tried several harnesses with him. None of them worked. I tried a choke collar with him and it didn't help. My English Mastiff has a gentle leader and that does well for her. I decided to try it with him. It worked for a while, until it stopped working. I have tried the head halti, and that broke while we were on a walk. I tried the leashes that scrunch up with the hands free option. That didn't work. Also, I am 134lb. He has pulled me into my kayak when my hand and wrist was in a hard brace after surgery. He has started trying to chase cars. He has pulled me down my driveway. I started becoming frustrated and dreaded going outside with him. I bought materials and installed a temporary fence in my back yard. I rent so I can't do a real fence. I tried one of those figure 8 leashes and the same day, I got it he saw some dogs that were loose and drug me down. He jumped the fence and was gone. I got in my SUV and drove to where he was at the end of my road. I decided that I was done with spending so much money on different products that aren't working. I was against prong collars. I used one with my Doberman 10 years ago. I only used it a few times with her. I had used an e-collar with my Rottie when he was younger and it was ill fitted. He ended up needing emergency surgery. So I got rid of the e-collar and previous prong collar. I said I would never use a prong collar. Finally, I had a break down and knew I had to do something. I decided that if I was going to do this, I was going to use the best that I could find. This prong collar is a little hard for me to put on due to having De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. I use this prong collar and I hook it to his heavy duty chain leash. I also hook the choke collar to the leash just in case the prong collar ever fails. The choke collar isn't even pulling or doing anything since it is so loose and basically acting like a collar. I also use an e-collar for him as well. I wear a pair of climbing gloves that I hold the leash with. That way if he goes to pull me, I have a good grip. We have been going out and having good walks. A few times he has gotten distracted and tried to pull me. But I didn't all down! I was able to hold the leash and keep him under control. I was very confused how he was still pulling me. I did some reading and realized I had the prong collar too loose. I took out a link and now it works very well. I can now walk him on a loose leash! I have never been able to walk him on a loose leash. When he tries to pull, I give one light correction and he listens. He sits and waits to leave out the house and to get back in the house. I am very pleased. I know there is a piece I can get to help put this on him, but reviews say it will come off. I don't want to go through that, so I am just gonna keep doing what we are doing. This prong collar is very durable. It is very strong. Be careful with it, I dropped it on my finger and it split my fingernail right at the base of the nail. My review on prom Collar
The only prong Collar that I trust and use on my dog would highly recommend but only if used properly because there is a proper way to use it if you haven’t used it before it’s really easy to use it. You’re just attached to Dog with prongs facing their neck and you attach the leash to the ring oval type thing not the circle and you put finger light pressure against your leash and you will know when the dog feels the pressure by turning and looking at you or doing other indicators ... show more

Best purchase for when communication isn't clear
Easily one of the best purchases of my dog's life. If you're apprehensive about prong-collars, I have three things to say: 1) it's about communication, not punishment 2) Buy one and put it on yourself and give it a good tug! You'll see that even when you tug it pretty good, it's more annoying than painful. 3) It might be less damaging than just a regular flat collar or harness. When I introduced the prong-color to my German Shepherd, it changed our communication completely. It was like night and day. When I was using the flat collar, it was like it wasn't even registering for him when I gave him corrections because it was far too comfortable for him to just pull on it with full force - to point of choking himself out. With the prong collar, it's like he immediately realized that when I gave him a gentle pop on the collar to remind him not to tug or to ignore something, he knew what I wanted. We even got to point where I could correct him just by him hearing the clinking of the chain when I pulled out the slack in the collar and he would correct his behavior before I even put pressure on him with the collar (because I left more slack than is recommended). He was definitely hurting himself more with a flat collar or a harness than he's ever been hurt by the prong collar and walks are so much more enjoyable now. ... show more

I feel that this collar is an absolute must for initial training.
I am training my 85# rescued 2.5 y/o Rot/Lab/Mix to be my service dog. He is all black and I wanted a training collar that is as inconspicuous as possible. My guy got the message immediately when this collar was put on that he needed to follow input commands he was/is being given. I like the swivel because I feel it helps to keep the motions free and without the entanglements of a stationary ring, although there is also stationary ring to use which keeps the unit from tightening when used in concert with the swivel ring. This is a very high quality collar, is well made and although I am not a fan of pinch collars, this item appears to have been engineered for safe humane use. Because the tips of the prongs have been rounded smooth and not left jagged and sharp, I feel comfortable using it. I use it with the understanding that it is for temporary use and is not intended to be used as an every day collar, but for training times only. As with any collar, misuse of this item can cause damage and as a handler you should always bear this in mind. As for the extra prongs that I purchase separately, I found that I did not need them after all but did not want to regret not having them in case I needed them at a later time. There is no "paint chipping off" and the colour remains intact, which was something I wondered about when I looked at it before purchasing. I highly recommend this product! ... show more

It works!
First of all, this collar is really quite beautiful. I have a dark gray pitbull and I ordered this in black so that it wasn’t such an obvious big silver torture looking collar and it’s really well-made and blends in with my dog. I have tried everything( I rescued him 3 weeks ago) and, at first I didn’t think that this was working either, because I didn’t understand how to fit it properly and he didn’t seem to feel any correction. It needs to be quite snug and I had to remove 3 links .( Hamilton Training on YouTube has excellent videos on how to fit and train with this collar) After one session and only one correction, his pulling stopped and I am finally looking forward to loose leash walks. The only drawback is that it is quite tricky to connect and undo the prongs on the links to put on and off as the prongs are very sturdy. Worth it! ... show more
