I bought scanner to do Forced Regeneration on the Freightliner. The truck would not give me a pre indication that Regeneration was needed during continued weekly operation. I would just be driving and without any warning, emissions light and check engine light would just come on and truck would soon derate. So, I would pull over and park and hit the switch on the dashboard to start a Regeneration. It worked most of time. But I wanted a way just to Regen the Freightliner every weekend to keep truck running good through week. So I bought this scanner. I couldn't get it to do a parked generation at first. Also, no lights on dashboard ever indicated truck was in need of Regeneration. But after trying over and over and reading and trying to figure out how to make scanner tool work, IT WORKED! So like I said, no lights ever would appear indicating truck needed a Regeneration until it was absolutely necessary driving down the road and I would have to pull over and do a dashboard switch Regeneration. But since I bought tool and figured it out, I do a parked Regeneration every weekend and never have an issue during the week. I drive about 2500 miles per week. And been using tool 3 months. Disclaimer: Mayne my warning Regeneration light is not working. Because it has never come on like it's supposed to and give you a little warning Regeneration is needed. You know, the light will start to flash and warn you Regeneration is needed. Then the light will stop flashing and just be continually on.. then you know truck bout to derate. Well, none of that stuff has ever happened. So that's why I bought tool. My suggestions if you think it's worth giving it a try... plug tool in with key switch off... crank truck... wait 2 minutes.... press ok on scanner tool.... wait 2 minutes.... scroll to DEF option and select... wait 2 minutes.... select engine type... wait 2 minutes.... select Regeneration option.... wait 2 minutes.... hopefully scanner says press ok to start Regeneration. The scanner may say not compatible. This happened to me a bunch. You have to let scanner tool catch up with your truck ECM. The scanner tool takes time. All I can say, the scanner tool does work for me and will force the truck into a parked Regeneration WITHOUT one single light being illuminated on the instrument panel. I do it every week at the end of my 5 day work week. Usually on Saturday when I'm off work. I am very glad tool works. But it wasn't just simple. You have to necessary steps. Wait in between selections... let scanner tool catch up. At least 2 minutes in between selections. And your truck will beep and lights on instrument panel will go on and off. And plug scanner in before starting truck. And if you push button on scanner and nothing happens, scanner is not broken. It just has to catch up. ... show more

Bought for use on my '13 Freightliner w/ detroit DD13. Not much to go on as far as reviews besides what is shown here on amazon. I don't take one review over another good or bad, unless there's a marked difference between more high or low respectively. What it DID do: Power up when attatched to 9 pin. Lit up the dash like a Christmas Tree, I mean ALL of the dash lights lit up. Put codes in for transmission (mine is automatic trans.), disabled the adaptive cruise control system (onguard), codes for ABS, Traction Control system, etc. NONE of these were present before I plugged it in. Put non-existent codes in the info/odometer section. Performed a PASSIVE regen...while PARKED. (see comment below next section) What it DID NOT do: Clear an existing code, much less read it. Perform a PARKED regen while PARKED. Read/clear the existing code, nor list Heavy Duty truck codes in the info. section. Plugged this in and turned key to on. Immediately my dash lit up with all kinds of codes and warnings. Turned key off, and unplugged. Left unit unplugged and turned key back on, none of the codes or dash lights outside of the problem i originally had came back up. Turned key to off, plugged unit back in, wiggled the plug around a bit to see if maybe a connection was loose. Nope, same scenario. Took off the kick panel and disconnected the ELD plug, as this can be an issue at times. Plugged back in sans ELD, turned key on and still same issues. Please note that the dealer had cleared any codes before hand, and the one i was trying to solve was new. Tried to request an active regen (parked), and absolutely nothing happened, even with wiggling the plug. After going through everything to make sure i had done it right, would only go into PASSIVE regen, while parked. Passive regen is while you drive, active is parked. 95% of drivers know this. Would not call up any information that is advertised, i.e. real time monitoring, and would not list truck codes in the menu, only for automobile applications. Select buttons, or navigation buttons, were difficult to use, very hard press and had to move around on the pad to actually find the spot where the button is. No update available on website for this unit??!!!! It's been around for a while, says on instructions you can go to the website for updates...smh. Ended up letting a friend try it on his '15 Pete w/ cummins ISX, as he was having a couple of codes as well. Told him it wasn't working on mine, and what it was doing. Initially same thing happened to him that I experienced. Dash lit up, non existent codes and the like. He also wiggled the plug, and got it to work fine after a few minutes of messing with it. Told him he could keep the infernal (expletives deleted) thing as I took a different route getting my issue fixed. I WOULD NOT recommend. ... show more

I used this scanner to read and clear codes from a 2011 International class 8. You should find the electrical builder's manual for your rig and verify bus protocol first. International uses CAN and ATA buses; they overlap but have different workings. I will update this review if/when I can get the scanner to trigger a parked DPF regen. It also works nicely on light duty OBDII vehicles (1996+). UPDATE - tried to do a parked DPF regen on a 2011 Daystar, and none of the DPF options worked. Either they came back as "Function not Supported" or couldn't see parking brake status to start. I will make sure the dash sees the parking brake... ... show more

Great device for major brands of diesel engines. This has saved me a ton of money on both my RAM 2500 Diesel and my new T680 Kenworth semi. Both trucks use Cummins engines. It's very easy to use and does what the manual says. Great tool. Very worth while.
