I really liked the quality of these racks. They look great in the garage. Trying to feed the pins through the shelf brackets and get that tiny pin lock on did indeed test my patience. But once on, they are solid. I used a 1x6 and 1x8 planks for shelving to cover the 16" brackets (with a gap between them) and am storing heavy boxes. 3/4" wood screws worked well to attach the planks to the shelf brackets. These are great for lumber storage. Heavy duty with strong mounting bolts. The hinge pins used to hold the shear pins in place are very small and a bit difficult to install with your fingers. Used a needle nosed plier to get the job done. If you plan to adjust the shelf brackets frequently, you might want to consider using a bolt & nut instead of the pins and clips. ... show more

No real instructions, the little plastic clips that join the uprights are really just spacers. They don't hold the uprights together for assembly purposes. Others have mentioned that the pins and clips are difficult to install, but I didn't find this particularly difficult. I'd like to see the support end caps molded in a bright yellow for visibility purposes -- otherwise it's easy to not see them and catch one in the shoulder or eye, or whatever is at that level. It would also be nice if the manufacturer would include an extra couple pins and clips, as these are very easy to lose. Overall a good product that should provide years of use. ... show more

    • Pins and Spring Locking Pin

The brackets are sturdy, my frustration has to do with the Pins and associated locking pin. the pins have no taper so if your view is a bit obstructed you cant put the pin through the rail and associated shelf bracket. It basically has to go through 4 holes and has to be very well aligned. Putting a taper on the pins and making them a bit longer would solve this. The locking pin (this holds the pin in) is very small and thin. I don't have a doubt that it will hold the pin since the load is not against that pin but it can get lost real easy, or fly away when putting it on the pin. Overall they are good sturdy shelves but they could have made things a bit easier. ... show more

These is a really nice shelving system. It's maybe not as tall as I would like, so I did wind up buying multiple. If you want to add boards to turn into shelves, a 14 inch board fits perfectly. It is installed with quite a few lag bolts, which is strong but a lot of work to install.
