  • Worked as advertised
Size: 16FT Garage Door
This is for the 16ft. Ordered one to support bad bottom panel. Arrived as promised. Installed today in like 30 mins. And what a difference. I started with middle piece bottom screw and right piece far right bottom screw and then left. Checked balance and proceeded with top screws then fastened all tight. Then top screws from the ling pieces starting with middle one. Then finished with bottom screws. Only one person with one impact driver for drilling and another for bolt so no need to keep changing bits. Note: drilled new holes for middle screws to align with my door. Will order second one for second panel. I was lazy to ignore it for long time. ... show more

  • Fixed Damaged Garage Door With This
Size: 16FT Garage Door
Had some damage to the 16' garage door. It was mostly across the top with a three to four foot section that was bowed to the point of not going up or down with the garage door opener. Found this on Amazon and added it across the top. Reattached the garage door opener components to the door and it works so much better. For the time being it saved me the cost of replacing (and repainting the entire top panel). ... show more

  • Do It Yourself Fix at a fraction of the cost
Size: 16FT Garage Door
This worked to re-enforce my double garage door where a panel had sagged and wouldn't close as a result. You do need an impact drill to install and it does add considerable weight to the garage door, but it fixed the issue at a fraction of the cost of bringing in a repair person. Comes with everything you need. ... show more

  • Fixed Sagging Garage Door
Size: 9FT Garage Door
My 9' garage door was sagging in the middle at the top due to the push and pull from garage door opener. My 16' garage door does not have this problem. When I looked closely at the differences between the two doors, I realized that there was a single piece reinforcement steel bar across the top of the 16' door while there was none at the top of the 9' door. Searched for a single piece reinforcement bar for the 9' door and could not find any. This 3-piece reinforcement bar seemed to be the only reasonable alternative. Assembling the 3 pieces together and keep them straight was the majority of the work during the installation. I used clamps to clamp them in place during the hole drilling and tightening of the screws. This made it easier and kept 3 pieces straight after the assembly. The instruction and pre-marked drill holes do not work for my 9' door. Had I followed them the final assembled piece would have been 1.5" short of 9'. Once the pieces were assembled into one putting it up onto the garage door was fairly easy and straight forward. It did fix the sagging problem. The noise from door opening and closing also seemed to have been reduced. Keep in mind this reinforcement bar will add about 8 lb to the weight of garage door. As a result door balancing spring and/or door opener force may have to be adjusted. Fortunately in my case neither was needed. I did have to adjust the door opener down travel setting a little. ... show more

  • This the garage door strut I have been looking for
Size: 16FT Garage Door
This is the 16 foot Strut I have been looking for. Not sold in the big box hardware stores and the garage door shops only want to sell me a brand new system. Reviewing all their brochures and pamphlets, looked at the specs on all systems and I researched new 16x 6 ft four-panel garage doors after wind damage earlier this year plus one of my two door springs broke in my very basic builder grade Wayne Dalton System. Because of the wind damage the door was “flexed in” and with only one operational spring, the door was cocked over to one side making the bend in the lower two panels worse. When the door was completely opened, the visible crack had a sag down the middle of the panel which pulled in the rollers from either sides of the track. The door would not close until the sagging middle was propped up straight across and re-seat the rollers. After researching garage doors, the basic garage door models only had one strut at the top panel. If you were looking at wind rated doors or insulated doors they had struts across each panel, plus additional struts up and down depending on the door weight. Now the 16 foot strut is broken down into three pieces for shipping. There are two 8 foot sections and a single-middle 3 foot section that acts as a mending plate. The total weight roughly 10 pounds which has to be factored into your springs, as I will repair my bottom two panels and reinforce the third from the bottom panel. I also upgraded the thin builder grade panel hinges to a beefier wider hinge as the old hinges were stressed and bent out of alignment. I used the install directions that had you index the strut on the door hinge’s lower mounting screw hole. I prefer this because the vertical beams in the door were of thinner gauge and wanted the self-tapping screws to bite into a thicker layer of steel. I did drill in 1/16 pilot holes to guide the screw placement because the pre-drilled holes did not line up with my vertical beams. I used a cordless drill with hex-interchangeable drill bits and drill drivers (self tapping screws have 7/16 heads) After the install, the panels are more stable despite the cracks in the outer fascia. My door had a base weight of 170 lbs, so I needed to upgrade my springs to about 200-210lbs load capacity accounting for the three struts and additional hardware. Overall, I am glad that I found the struts I have been looking for. ... show more

  • Worth the money, easy to install
Size: 16FT Garage Door
We have a 16 ft wide garage door that we use multiple times daily. The 2nd panel from the top had become bent and the door would not work correctly due to age and overuse I am sure. Replacement was going to cost around $2000 and of course we wanted to delay that as long as possible. We installed this part on the compromised panel in about 20 minutes. The door is functioning perfectly. I am planning to get more for the other panels just to avoid problems in the future. When replacement time comes we plan to reuse them on the new door since garage doors are made of flimsy materials and we feel this will help the longevity of a new door. So far we are very impressed. ... show more
