  • Simplified Installation for Wood and Metal Doors
The DEWALT Door Lock Installation Kit has been a game-changer for me when it comes to installing locks on both wood and metal doors. As a homeowner who enjoys DIY projects, I've found this kit to be an essential tool that simplifies the process of installing door locks. One of the standout features of this kit is its C-clamp design, which securely holds the door in place during installation. This ensures that the door remains stable and prevents any movement while I work, resulting in precise and accurate cuts for the lockset and latch plate. The kit includes two adjustable bushings, allowing me to easily set the size of the holes needed for different locksets. This versatility is particularly valuable, as it accommodates various lock types and sizes, making it suitable for different doors around my home. Installation using the kit is incredibly straightforward. The step-by-step instructions provided in the kit are clear and easy to follow, even for those with limited experience in door lock installation. This has saved me both time and frustration, as I no longer need to measure and mark the door manually. The durability and build quality of the components are impressive. The drill bits and other accessories are made from high-quality materials, ensuring long-lasting performance even with frequent use. One aspect that I particularly appreciate is the compatibility of this kit with both wood and metal doors. Whether I'm working on interior doors made of wood or exterior doors made of metal, this kit has consistently delivered reliable results. The ease of use and efficiency of the kit have made it an indispensable tool in my home improvement toolkit. It has saved me time, ensured precise installations, and provided peace of mind knowing that my door locks are securely and professionally installed. In conclusion, the kit is a must-have for any homeowner or DIY enthusiast. Its C-clamp design, adjustable bushings, ease of use, and compatibility with wood and metal doors make it a top-notch product. I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking to install door locks quickly, accurately, and with professional results. It has certainly exceeded my expectations, and I'm confident it will do the same for others. ... show more

  • Works great. Good Dewalt quality. Works great. Good Dewalt quality.
I bought this to install a lock set and deadbolt in a new steel entry door. It was easy to use and made clean cuts through the steel on both sides of the door. It is sturdy and clamped tightly to the door and did not move when I was drilling. Don't press real hard when cutting through steel, and remember to back off every 5 or 10 seconds to let the cuttings clear the teeth. It will make a nice clean cut. Hold on to your drill firmly because when it finally cuts through the steel, it will grab and you need to stay in control of the drill. Very happy with this purchase. I wish I didn't have to buy it, but the bolt locations in the door jamb were at a non-standard height so I had to custom drill this door. The teeth on the two hole saws still feel quite sharp so I imagine this unit will drill several doors before the hole saws need to be sharpened or replaced. ... show more

  • Great jig that takes all the guesswork out of the job
I am renovating an entire house and replacing all of the cheap luan hollow core doors with Maple solid core door slabs, making my own Maple door jambs. This jig works great for drilling the holes for the door knob! It has a little window on the corner of the jig so that all you need to do is place a small pencil mark on the edge of the door where you want the knob centered. Then you line up the arrow window (there is another small circle window too) and clamp it down. The clamp is strong and secure. The hole saws included easily cut through the door in about a minute or so using my cordless drill. I have not yet had to replace them. I have so far hung 7 doors with way more than that yet to go. To help exchange bits after cutting the larger one first, I use a large flat head screwdriver to pry out the wood core. Then I reverse the drill, stick the screwdriver in one of the hole saw slots, hold firmly and engage the drill slowly. This frees the hole saw bit from the arbor and makes it easy to remove. And as the bit is hot, you won't burn your hands. Doing the same after using the small bit makes bit removal easy. I did find also that the smaller bit works best if you remove it once or twice during the cut. It doesn't do as good of a job of ejecting the saw dust as the larger one does. Also be sure when using the larger bit to cut most of the way through one side, and then switch to the other side at least score through the door a little. This will prevent chipping out the opposite side of the door. At first you'll think the knob on the clamp is in the way, but if you wiggle the bit in there, it will go. I only cut about a 1/8" in and then go back to the original side and finish the cut. I found that this prevents any kind of ridge where the two cuts meet up (but not a big deal even so). The only reason for knocking off one star is that every time I use it, a little bit of black plastic shavings are found from the guide hole in the jig. I'm worried that at some point it will not be reliable anymore as the guide hole may become too big. But like I said, I've already used it 7 times and if I have to buy another, I will. ... show more

  • great product
I'm an avid DIY'er and replaced 10 interior doors recently using the Bosch 1617EVS router, Ryiobi door hinge installation and door latch kits, and Dewalt door lock installation kit. It was easy cutting the hinge recesses, door handle holes, and latches with these tools. I recommend using all of these. I bought door blanks. A few were too wide which I cut with a table saw. I simply laid an old door on the saw with as a bed with 2x4's supporting the outer edges. This worked fine. A couple were too long which I cut with a skill saw. The Ryobi hinge guide was perfect to guide the router cutting of hinge recesses. It mounts firmly and is precise including router bit depth setting. Be sure to let the router stop before removing it from the jig. This eliminates cutting into plastic noted in the other reviews. The Bosch router is great. It starts very smoothly with a controlled spinup. I felt no vibration and it was easy to control and guide. This is my first router and am very impressed. The Dewalt door lock install kit worked great to cut the door and lock mechanism holes. I just cut carefully to avoid chewing into the plastic. I had an extra 1" hole saw to cut the lock mechanism hole. The guide firmly attaches to the door. The Ryobi door latch kit was the only weak link. Ryobi needs to provide a router guide to cut the latches like the hinge kit. It's hard to hold the template steady and parallel to the door while striking with a hammer. Like others, I used wood chisels to remove the wood and a dremel with cutting tool to round the corners. ... show more

  • Excellent Tool
Works very well. With this you don't need to have the skills of a master craftsman to get the holes for you lockset in the right place.

  • It works for what it is intended to do.
This unit is a template to get your deadbolt aligned in the proper spots. The IS NOT a guide when you are drilling your holes. And if you need a guide, don't buy this jig. I am a professional Locksmith with more than 35 years experience. I am currently retired from the trade, so I don't have access to the $300 to $400 Kwikset jig that I am used to. But, this jig works just fine. You use it to start your holes then remove it to finish drilling. This is the way we did it even with the high end Kwikset jig. You do it this way because the friction between the hole saw and the jig would wear it out prematurely. And as I pointed out above, these Pro jigs are expensive. And the one we have for the shop was many years old because we take care of it in this manor. With the Dewalt jig, it will last me a while because I didn't use it as a guide. I know what you are thinking. If this is just a guide, why don't I just use the template provided in the box with the new deadbolt. Well, if you have to ask, you have never used one. They are very inaccurate because they move, even when they are taped down securely. Trust me, I have had to repair many doors due to some using these templates. I suppose if you take your time and keep the hole saw from drifting, they are fine. But, I refuse to use them for that reason. Ok the only major complaint I have about this jig is they didn't put any rubber bumpers on the jig side. They only put it on the handle side. To remedy this, I put masking tape on the door. We do this normally, even with the good jigs. it helps to minimize the wood from splintering and getting scratched. The tape did help with the jig not moving. I do like this jig, it did what I wanted. Made it easier to line up the holes in an older metal door that didn't have a wood core. And made it faster to setup to drill the wood door. And that is what it is supposed to do. ... show more

  • Worked great on 11 door knobs
This tool worked great. Have to be careful to let the tool do the work and not push too hard when finishing the hole or it will splinter material on back side of cut.
