    • Not made for metal doors
Great looking product but fell short on effectiveness and quality. Working on a steel door is more difficult than it seems with this tool. Tendency to slide under pressure so a tighter more robust assembly is preferred. If you're handy then you can rig something up but as far as standalone, it is not up to snuff on steel doors.     • Worked Well to Re-Cut an Old Door
I used this successfully to enlarge a too small deadbolt hole cut to an old standard in an old door. Tip: After reading some comments about the hole saw binding, I put a few drops of light oil on the blade at the start. It turned smoothly and there was no binding at all. The included 1" hole saw for the door-edge bolt hole would likely have worked, but I needed to be certain to be centered around the old hole. So instead, and without this jig in place, I re-drilled that hole using a 1" twist-drill bit as it self-centers. Then, when positioning this jig, I passed the new lock's bolt mechanism through the jig's edge hole which set my alignment. When cutting the large lock hole, the instructions recommend drilling from one side until the pilot bit emerges on the opposite face, then stopping and resetting the jig on the 2nd side in line with that pilot hole, then completing the cut-through from the 2nd side to avoid chipping when the hole saw comes all the way through. I couldn't do that because I was using this to enlarge an existing hole. The pilot bit was basically doing nothing, so there would be no way to accurately reposition the jig on the 2nd door face. I had no choice but to cut all the way through the door from one side. I therefor drilled at as high a speed as I could while applying VERY light pressure. The hole saw then came through the second face cleanly. There was no chipping or break-out. After reading the various comments about this jig, I selected it not because it seemed the best so much as the least bad, so it was not without some fear and trepidation that I assaulted the door. This jig worked well! The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's plastic with a tiny bit of play in the vise. When torqueing it down on the door, I found that it flexed just a bit. If absolute accuracy is the goal, this jig might not produce perfect results. As well, running a metal hole saw through a plastic guide is the very definition of planned obsolescence. That said, I can't complain. The new lock, an electronic deadbolt, fit perfectly and works smoothly. I'm very satisfied with the results. ... show more

This dewalt is a must have if you’re installing locks in a door.. It tightens onto the door which prevents it from moving while drilling your hole.. must have even though it’s a lil more expensive than the other ones but worth the extra cost..

    • Still going strong nine doors in!
This sets the doorknobs perfectly every single time. No need to over-tighten the black knob because it will distort the position a little bit. I've cut nine bores in hollow-core doors with this set, and it's still going strong. It's a little hard to get the scrap out, but that's minor. If I needed to do more doors I might consider replacing the bits, but they are still making clean cuts. Would definitely buy this product again! ... show more
