  • Hands Down, the Best Present Ever!
I ordered this portable dvd player solely for the benefit of having buttons on the front of the device. It was nearly the only one at the time I could find with this feature that was affordable, and I wanted it simply so my daughter who just turned four would be able to easily start and stop it if she needed to. I wanted a remote so I could "maybe" control the volume from up front if the device was able to register the button press from that angle. It doesn't. So there's that, but I'll get into that later. As for the actual device, it's super light! From other reviews, I truly thought this would be a heavy device, and it literally feels like it weighs about two pounds. Folded closed, it's easy to hold, and when open the screen tilts back just a little. In the above pictures, this is as far back as the screen will go, and when it swivels, it only does so from one side, so beware if you try to turn it one way it seems it won't go, please don't force it, and try the other direction. Again, it open, closes, and swivels with no issues at all. The buttons on the side of the device are what I would like to call the "master" buttons. It has a toggle on/off switch, the USB port, SD Card area, headphone jack, aux ports, etc., but mainly for me, the on/off switch. And I say master, because on the front of the device below the screen you have the volume up/down, play/pause, on/off, and forward/backward buttons. If you press the on/off button, it just shuts the screen off, but the sound is still playing. At least on the device I received this is the case. I don't know if it does it to all of them, but it's not a master off button for us. I have to use the switch button the side to turn it fully off. Also, if this "master" button is left in the on position, and you close the screen, it will turn it off, but the device is still on and on standby. You can hear it on, and once you slide that master switch off, the dvd player goes completely off. So remember that also if you want your battery to last. The last buttons are the buttons on the inside of the device where the dvd goes. Those all work accordingly, with no issues. For the screen itself, it is crystal clear, and presents a beautiful picture! I tried from multiple viewing angles as well to see if I would get a black screen, and much to my surprise, no. The only time the screen got that black look to it is when I slouched all the way down and tried looking up from that angle. Side to side is great, which is a huge plus as I have a baby who, when older and able to move to a different car seat, can also view this dvd player. As stated the screen is basically a nice 10 inch view that is easy to see, even when you have different screen ratios. Volume is also on par, and goes from 0 to 20 max volume, which we have it on volume 10 in the vehicle, and that's plenty loud right there. My daughter can hear it fine, with no issues. Dvd's are easy to insert and take out, again no issues there. This does have a five hour charge, and currently I fully charged it before using it in the car. I commute to work and to also bring my daughter to school, so that's 45 minutes one way in the vehicle. We've used it three times already, around 35 minutes each interval, and we're still going. Do keep in mind that I am switching that "master" on/off to off position. It does come with both a wall charger and car charger as well as other cables in case you need to charge in the vehicle for a longer drive. I'll update later to see exactly how long this device can go without a charge. It does come with a car case, which is basically a cheap, material case that has two buckles (watch those dang buckles as when moving the buckle to make the length of the strap longer it slid right off the material, and likes to slip now), an enclosed bottom, and sides and front cut out for easy access to the device. It does have a Velcro top closure on the front. And just an FYI, make sure you crisscross the straps to the headrest. Don't ask me what I was thinking, but the first time I did it, I did the straps vertical, and they kept slipping off as we drove. Duh moment. Sometimes it will slip just a hair now that I crisscrossed it, but it's due to that one buckle that likes to slip down. The case does work fine otherwise, and it was a bonus not to have to order one as this one came with it. The remote. I hate this remote. Simply because I can't get it to work. I pulled the little battery tab, and expected it to start or stop the movie, or move the volume, but nothing. I sometimes can get it to stop the movie, but then it won't work for playback. I'm going to try a different battery to see if that works, but currently, the remote is a moot point here. And you ask, "how does it fair with driving down roads with potholes the size of craters?" Very well actually. I live in the country with bad roads...hello people of Louisiana...and the dvd player holds up well with no skipping or delays if I hit a rather large bump. In all, my daughter is in love with this dvd player, and will take it everywhere with her even though she has a tv in her room or we have the tv in the living room on, she will still have a movie in it going. It's easy enough for her to use (although I don't let her open the dvd section or handle the dvds), the screen and volume are amazing, and it's perfect for our long commutes. Definitely the best present I've given her! ... show more

  • Portable, long battery life, can use headphones
This has been a lifesaver! I bought this to entertain my 5 yr. old when I didn't have a babysitter for some of my meetings. I plug in a toddler-safe a headphone set, pop in a DVD and he is quiet and happy for my hour- long meetings. I charge it before we leave the house and it has never needed to be recharged before the hour is done. I haven't timed carefully, but I would guess it will last 3 or 4 hours before needing to be recharged. I am so happy that I don't have to resort to giving him my phone where he might be able to access things I don't want him to have. When he is plugged into this, I know he can't possibly be watching anything other than the age-appropriate DVDs I have selected for him. The picture quality is good, although obviously quite small. But small is exactly what I need when I want my 5 yr. old sitting on a chair with this in his lap. It would work great for travel too, because it could be held on a lap in a train or plane, and with headphones, it would bother anyone else. It can be used with or without headphones. If we lose or break this, I would definitely buy it again. ... show more

  • Great Video Player
I really like this portable video player. The screen quality is good/clear and the sound is good—almost too good. I haven’t used it in a car, but for around the house, it has been great! I use it mostly when bed and want to watch something I have on video. It comes with a charging cable for both the house and car. And the remote, love that it has a remote so I don’t have to mess with the player if I don’t want to. I would definitely recommend this item and would buy again if mine ever breaks. ... show more

  • Love this product!
We did so much research to find a portable DVD player set. We actually originally were looking at the double screen ones, but the slave monitor thing wasn't what we wanted. We wanted players that had two separate DVD players and still could be hooked up together to watch one movie. And we wanted all the features like last memory and ports to play different mediums and such. So we got two of these instead, because some reviews said they could be connected, and the price for two was similar to the double-screen slave-monitor systems. And I'm so glad we did! Set-up was super easy! We used the aux cable we already had in our car, one goes in the AV/In, and sends to the AV/Out on the other one, and then you press Mode on the second player and Voila! Both players show the same movie. The travel car case that straps to the back of our headrests are great. They're a little flimsy so be gentle with them, and make sure you unplug the charger before pulling it out or it could snag the side elastics. But they seem to be better than some of the other options out there. They are very secure on the seats and have buckles, not velcro. The car chargers work well, as do the wall chargers. We have two cigarette lighters in our van, so that's not an issue for us to plug two in at a time. And they can charge and play the movie at the same time without blowing a fuse (which someone who reviewed another brand said happened). The picture quality and sound are great! Some reviews said the sound is a little quiet when the car ride is going, and I can see what they mean there. It's not going to be like your home entertainment center. But it's great for our little girls. Honestly, when their movie is playing I don't want it to be too loud because I want to hear my audiobook up front. We will use the speakers that way, and to give us more options, we also ended up buying two bluetooth headphone sets, and a bluetooth transmitter so that they could watch their movie and we didn't have to listen to it too. It works great with the players; it just plugs into the headphone port and we pair the BT headphones to it and both girls can watch and listen to the same movie and we don't have to up front. We bought those things separately. I've been dinking around with these for about a week now and I love everything about them! I haven't tried playing a movie off of USB or an SD card yet. And likewise I haven't tried to AV/IN - OUT connect the players while playing off of those formats. So I don't know how those work yet, but I'll find out later. We're about to head out on a cross-country road trip and so we'll see how they hold up for that! Some other reviews said that they don't last very long and will go out after a few months or even weeks. But we'll see how these do for us. I did notice that on one of our players when you plug the headphones all the way into the jack, it only picks up sound in one earbud. But then I pulled it out just a little bit and it made connection and both earbuds played. The other player didn't have that problem at all. If we end up using the headphone jack a lot that could end up being a little annoying if it means our toddlers' sound goes in and out when they bump the cord, but hopefully it won't be a big issue. I really like the design of these. You do have to take them out of the holders and flip up the screen to be able to switch DVDs, but it also means the DVDs are very secure. The DVD insert design is solid and doesn't skip even when sideways in the car. The remotes work pretty well too. I was pleased to find that one remote can work with both players so I don't have to keep track of which remote goes to which. In the car the sensor ends up pointing up toward the ceiling, but if I hold the remote high and angle it down I can usually hit it after a couple of tries, even from the far back seat of my mini-van. I don't think my kids could do it though. But that's ok for now. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase so far! I will keep using them and see how long they last, and update my review if anything changes. But hopefully they'll keep doing what they're doing for a nice long while. ... show more

  • Great dvd player but volume was low
Like the player-good picture and easy operation. We did have to purchase an additional speaker to increase to volume.
