    • A Good replacement for my old iPod Classic
I prefer my own live recordings over anything that I can get from Spotify or Alexa. I had an old iPod Classic that served me well for a really long time. It finally stopped working. Spent hours on the phone with Apple trying to revive it. Sent me to an Apple Store. They laughed and said "we do not even have the software for this anymore." I asked about an iPod touch and they laughed again and said that is no longer being made anymore either. I went to Amazon, and there was an iPod touch. This 256mb version should last me quite a while as I continue to add tunes. I have two other i-pods, both 64mb's, both full. Kind of odd how no warning or message comes when they get full, they just won't synch. At least I know now it's time for another i-pod, glad Amazon still has them!

BACKGROUND: After having my small case containing my 4 iPod Classics stolen during a recent pass through Phoenix Airport's TSA Checkpoint 5 at Terminal 3, I found myself in need of a replacement for my original iPod Classics.🥲 As a musician, frequent traveler, and golfer, I prefer to keep my music "off my phone" and on a separate device(s). My iPod Classics had served that purpose for more than 20 years. Although I knew that at some future point, they would need to be replaced, I hadn't anticipated that circumstance being the reason for replacement. WHY THIS iPOD TOUCH: Due to the expansive catalog of music in my collection, I determined that I would need at least 2 devices to replace the previous 4 iPod Classic devices. After searching multiple sites, and evaluating several newer possibilities, I determined that these iPod Touch devices might be a suitable replacement. I decided to purchase 2 as a test of that theory. The fact that these devices were "Amazon Renewed" gave me comfort that they would be cosmetically appropriate and functional. Also, the fact that they were part of the Apple ecosystem made them attractive as replacements. HARDWARE: The device is slightly larger than a credit card and very thin when compared to today's iPhones. The width is equivalent to a credit card and the length is approximately 1.5 times longer (hence the 4-inch diagonal screen). The device has been upgraded from its original manufactured configuration to include more memory (256 GB). Apple's original iPod 7th Gen devices did not house that much memory, which also made this device attractive to me. I do not know the travels of this device from the original Apple factory to the Amazon Renewal Center, but as a consumer of multiple Apple Products, I knew that these devices would not be Factory Originals. This iPod is roughly three-quarters the size of an iPhone SE. See the photo accompanying this review for a size comparison between the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone SE, and these iPods. Be prepared for the smaller size and much lighter weight. The separate headphone jack and lightning port allow for simultaneous listening and charging when power or recharge is needed. The screens were scratch-free and the backs also appeared to be a suitable "like-new" condition. SOFTWARE: The device will run Apple's iOS 15.8. That means several of the security and operational features found on iPhones running iOS 16 and iOS 17 will not be available on this device. The device paired easily with one of my 3 iPhones and the iOS update was seamless and efficient - all things I would have expected from an Apple ecosystem device. I use this device strictly for music storage and playback. As a result, I removed from the device landscape and home screen any application that did not facilitate that purpose. I don't need to be getting text messages or emails on multiple devices! Apple's iOS 15.8 and related music application apps are running without a hitch. It also connected to my iCloud account without issues. OPERATION: I surveyed several of the reviews for this product here on Amazon before my purchase and noticed that there were several complaints regarding battery life. While I cannot verify a battery replacement my devices are powered down when not in use. In the two weeks of use, they have lasted thru an 18-hole round of golf and several hours of connection to an externally powered speaker in the office. Turning off all background updates on non-essential music-related apps can help lengthen the time between battery charges. They both pair easily with my portable Bluetooth speaker. The sound quality was as expected during playback. PURPOSE: As mentioned, I use these devices strictly for music storage and playback. And they are serving that purpose. There are features that I miss from my previous devices, but as of now, these devices are serving their purpose. Maybe at some point in the future, Apple will return a portable storage device like these for those of us who don't like to clutter one device (our phones) with all the alternative features, content, and data. In the meantime, I'll use these devices as replacements for my original iPod Classics and continue to consider appropriate alternatives for the next round of device replacement! ... show more

I bought this iPod touch to replace my old one to use for Road Trip Music and never got to use it because the darn thing doesn’t hold a charge for 1 day after I fully charge it up, unplug it and don’t use it!!! I never even got to put anything on it to play since the battery life is basically useless unless I keep it on a charger! I thought Amazon had higher standards with their Refurbished products as I’ve bought other refurbished items that performed as well as a new one. Boy I got skunked on this one and by the time I figured this out the “return time” had expired! Now I guess I’m stuck with a lemon that I can’t make lemonade out of! This just seems so wrong somehow…. ... show more
