  • A quality "do it yourself" backup camera kit for your car!
Size: HD02
This is clearly one of the best electronic "kits" that I've recently encountered. Everything you need to install the camera, suggested to be near the "license plate light," is included. Even a screwdriver, some cable ties, nuts and bolts, and double stick'um tape are included. The only thing you need to do is check if your car is compatible with it, and if so, order the camera kit, then decide where to mount the camera when it comes. The job is simple: physically mount the camera, then connect the two power wires and the yellow (video) cable between the camera and the car's display. That's it. I thought the manual instructions were clear and easily understood, although making sure of the compatibility issue might drop you into unfamiliar territory. A call to technical support will quickly clear that up. This is important: you'll waste a lot of time trying to make incompatible products work together if you don't do your homework before buying the camera. I was impressed with the overall image quality. The daytime mode gives you high def color images, and in low light conditions, the infrared mode automatically switches on and you get a b&w IR (infrared) image, again, pretty much high def, of what the camera sees. I've seen lots of IR images, and these are really quality ones, much above the average ones you often see on tv. I wanted to try using the camera to monitor things going on outside at night, independent of the car. Cheap old TV monitors can't take the AHD signal directly from the yellow cable, and anyway I don't have old tv to try this on. So I purchased a $50 to HDMI converter (from Amazon) and used a regular HDMI input on a tv set. It worked fine. If you go this route, you'll also need an RCA (female) to BNC (male) adapter, or find an RCA to BNC cable. I give this product 5 stars for the product itself, but customer support wasn't responsive to my request for information - for a while. I'd almost forgotten my request, but eventually I did get a personal response that answered all questions. So they almost lost a star for that, but now this gets 5 stars from me. ... show more

  • Great fisheye sees down street. True 720p resolution. Decent night vision.
Size: HD01
I got this as an upgrade to the camera included with my fairly low-end Android head unit. Factory settings had the AHD/30 setting and it worked great, and I love the super-wide angle. Decent camera shell design. Angle-adjustment hinge will tighten down firm. Sticky tape on bottom of mount. Lots of extra to help with installation: waterproof wire wraps, sticky clips, cable ties, trim separator tool. Resolution is good and definitely 720p. Night vision is decent, picking up the street in a dim streetlight and my reverse lights. Easily 160° wide-angle, sees down the street in both directions when backing out of parking space. Straight video out of camera, no parking space overlay (head unit should add this). My measurements: * 25mA (0.3W) power draw, almost nothing. * Confirmed 30Hz AHD (22.6 kHz horizontal, 750 total lines) * 23-foot video cable, 1.5 foot cable from camera, 3 foot DC jack cable * 0.5" spacing of back screws, if you remove mount to put e.g. on license plate mount (it fits my generic mount). ... show more

  • Camera with AHD signal not suitable for all head units
Size: HD01
I got this to plug in to my Pioneer head unit, but it just won't recognize the signal. I can get a brief squiggle image when I apply power to the camera, but then it just shows black. No settings on the radio to allow it to display. The camera and wiring and tools and stickers are all good though, and I tested the video signal through an HDMI adapter and it showed a good image on TV. My fault for not adequately checking compatibility with my 3 year old head unit. I can't fault the product, as it works as described. ... show more

  • I couldn't get it to work.
Size: HD01
I tried connecting this camera to two different HD screens, and neither of them picked up signal. Possible operator error, but the documentation is so scant that I don't even know how to troubleshoot it. I gave it two stars because it does seem well made, so if you can get it to work I don't think it will randomly fall apart on you. ... show more

  • Make sure your stereo can accept HD from an RCA input before buying!
Size: HD01
I really wanted this to work but it turns out that none of my four car stereos accept an HD input for the rear view camera. To be fair, it says on the page that you should check before buying. Even if your stereo says it "Supports HD video playback" like mine does, it does NOT mean that that the rear view camera can be HD. To verify, you will need to find a stereo that explicitly says it supports an HD rear view camera and you need to make sure the input for that camera is RCA and not HDMI. Sadly, it just didn't work for mine. Despite that, I do have several things I really liked about it. First, I really liked that it came with tools for installation including a pry tool and two screwdrivers. Next, it also came with a bunch of other things that I have not seen in similar car camera kits like things to hold the wires in place, adhesive on the back of the camera and some waterproof tape. It also came with all of the cables you would need even though that wasn't clear from the images. I took an image of everything that came in it so you can see. All of that was very cool. The only thing it is missing for installation that would make it better are the wire clamp splice connectors so that you can easily tap into the power for the reverse light. If you don't have those, you would need to either get some or find some other way to tap in. In the end, I am very sad that I could not put this in my car but hope that this will help others. ... show more
