My neighbor recommended this and I have other Hayward products that are OK, so I bought it. It is quite expensive for such a simple product. The instructions want you to point the pool water outlets downward, but that is not what they are designed for. They are designed to move the surface water in one direction toward the skimmer. So I have not done this. This device is not climbing the walls as advertised, but my neighbor's does, so I am guessing mine just needs to be adjusted somehow. I purchased this 6 months ago. For 6 months I was a tad frustrated. It kept falling over onto its side and wasn’t cleaning the pool very well; it was simply recirculating the water 80% of the time. HOWEVER, after being frustrated for 6 months I suddenly realized that it was MY FAULT; USER ERROR. I failed to place the hose sleeves that are meant to go just above the cleaner on the hose. Once I realized this and went and found them in the box. I clipped one about 6 inches above the cleaner and the second one 4-6 inches above the first one. After I had put them where they belong, my cleaner suddenly stopped falling over on its side and started working great!!! I have noticed that there are several other reviews where people are claiming the same issue with the cleaning falling over, some with pictures of the cleaner on its side; most of which also show the lack of the hose sleeves properly placed, which leads me to think that I’m not the only person making this error. Have not had an issue with it turning on its side. It does not climb the vertical walls no matter the settings but does climb the steep sides of the bowl. It does not sweep completely clean. I still have to brush dirt spots. It will NOT remove algae. You will have to brush everything loose. It takes about 5 to 6 hours for it to get everything covered. My pool is 16 x 32 and 5 feet at the deep end. It does climb onto the standard circular bottom drain and makes all 4 wheels free spin making it stuck so you have to watch it. While it does kind of free you from vacuuming, it does require tending to. I mean, I can vacuum the entire pool in about 20 minutes manually so this doesn't save any time, just saves a little muscle. Is it worth the price? Maybe a break even if it lasts more than 2 to 3 years, otherwise, it won't be worth it. ... show more

Was expecting more than 2 years life out of the Aquanaut 400. The plastic steering slide gear became stripped along with one of the Wheel Hub (inside gear sprocket). I got 2 years out of it and need to do a rebuild for $200 (if I buy the whole bottom assembly, much more if I order the parts separately. I have always had to do rebuilds on my Hayward cleaners, I wish they would make the parts out of better material. ... show more
