    • There is a trick to it

I thought this would be self-explanatory right out of the box. After all, I'd prefaced my purchase by reviewing a LOT of videos on how it worked. Upon trying to get the embossing folder through the machine for about an hour, I was ready to return it. It didn't work with the Sizzix sample paper either. The top plate fed through leaving the baseplate and the embossing folder behind. Turns out, there's a trick. FIRST, give the Sizzix embossing folder a good squish after putting the embossing material in between. SECOND, lay that straight onto the base plate (with no 'A' plate - that plate is just for Thinlets...kinda). THIRD, TILT the entire "Sandwich" about 45 degrees UP as you load it into the Sizzix. Lay it flat after the handle stops turning. (Make sure the beveled edge of the top plate is facing the right way. You should be able to read the wording - albeit, upside down - as you load it into the roller.) Now, for the base plate 'A' - the Thinlets that came with it worked just fine outta the gate. I'd also ordered an "off-brand" embossing folder, which I figured (correctly) would be thinner than the Sizzix folders. It works just fine with the Base plate, Plate 'A', and one clear plate. Overall, this will come in handy making cards as it's much quicker to cut components for cards than the Cricut. (so long as you have the appropriate dies). If you want to make cards from scratch, you can cut your envelope on the Cricut, and any other "free-standing" design elements to include on your card. The Sizzix will be great for intricate embellishments and card designs. Overall, I'm pleased, now that I've got the hang of it. ... show more

After following the directions perfectly and trying other suggestions in videos and from other crafty friends, I still can't get the thing to go through the machine when I turn the handle. The platform that came with it is just too thick to go through the machine. I even had people suggest using less plates, stagger it, put the folder at the back so it could catch. Nothing works. Maybe they included the wrong embossing folder? It is a 3D folder that came with it. You'd think everything that comes with the machine in the starter kit would work in the dang thing. But no! I ordered a replacement machine to see if this one is just defective. We'll see if that one is stupid, too... ... show more

I have nothing against this wonderful little machine. What really upsets me is we pay a good price for this machine only to find out when we receive it that one of the most important plates ( the metal shim) is not included and you have to buy separately. That's just plain wrong. Why not just put it in with the rest. Now I have to wait for that to come before using my machine. The machine itself is awesome... the company needs to rethink a few things. ... show more
