  • Get ready to move some air!
***LED Bulb update: So, I spent some time trying to find an LED bulb option to install in the range hood. It comes with less common S11-sized bulb. There isn't a bright enough LED S11 option to replace the incandescent bulb that ships with this hood. I wanted a 60W equivalent and there is none. There is some weird information online that says the S11 has an E17 base. This is wrong. As of the time I got this hood, the bulb socket uses a medium base. Long story short, get an A15 sized LED bulb and it fits just fine! They are cheap ($3-$5) and easily available. Note that you are taking some chances with the LED bulb: It will be installed behind a cover, and may not be suitable for high heat applications. The bulb enclosure/cavity inside the hood is vented, so that may help with heat dissipation. I'll take my chances regarding cooking temperatures. The clear cover for the bulb enclosure is plastic after all. Hope this helps! 2 things to watch out for: I believe the circular damper, pictured in the installation instructions, is upside down. Pull out the rubber stoppers and install it the other way in order to work properly. As others have mentioned, reinstalling the bottom cover is a real pain. You remove it so you can complete the mounting, but then the screw holes don't exactly line up when you put it back together. I spent way too much time trying to get it closed up and I basically just used 2 out of the 5 screws. This aspect of the design could definitely use some improvement Other than the above, you are really getting a good value for your money with this range hood. I was tempted to go down a star for the hassle with the cover, but this thing moves a LOT of air, has a nice stainless finish AND I really like the controls: Simple push buttons, and perfectly placed in the front. So many of the fancy range hoods put the buttons in ambiguous locations underneath the hood. The black trim piece near the controls has a nice metallic finish, not a cheap flat black. Noise-wise, the fans are a little on the loud side (difficult to listen to the TV when cooking). The included 40W incandescent S11 bulb burnt out on the second day. I am looking for an LED replacement, but there is no 40W equivalent LED bulb that I can find at the moment. I'll update this post if I find one with the same base and similar dimensions that will allow it to fit. ... show more

  • Product great so far . . . Needs new installation guide
We did a self install with a top vent and it was all pretty straight forward. As others have said it takes 2 to get it up there mostly because you have to hold it there to mark where the screws go (someone else mentioned that a template would have been nice and I concur) and then slide the fixture onto the screws which you can't really see when you are supporting it. The one place we got stuck was the installation of what I would call the flue (its the metal flap that opens to let the air out but closes again so warm air isn't always leaking out the vent). There was no description of it in the manual and the picture which was supposed to show it installed was very blurry. Basically you have to slide the squarish rubber bits mounted on 2 metal V shaped prongs (located on opposite sides of the vent opening) off and then set the axle that goes through the middle of the flue one in each end of the V shaped prongs. When you replace the rubber bits they hold it down so that when you turn the air on the flue opens instead of flying away. It took us a while to work it out. Quality wise it seems good but time will tell on that front. We replaced a model from 1960 that was dripping oil everywhere so we are excited to see how the oil/grease capturing feature works. I will try to add notes as it ages. It definitely deals with cooking smells better than the old one. I hate the smell of frying and I used to have to go to the other end of the house whenever my husband did it but with the new hood I only detected the smell a little when he was done. ... show more

  • Super Strong Hood - Super Low Price
It took me weeks to research the Range Hood that I wanted. This was to replace my 10-year-old hood. I didn't want the mesh filters - I was looking at the baffled filters - I wanted strong CFM. My wife does Asian cooking, so you need a very good hood. We have our hoods ducted from the back -not the top. This has both options. This had neither mesh or baffles for the filters. As you can see from the pictures, it is different. Certainly, will allow more airflow than mesh and perhaps baffles. The baffled units with high CFM are expensive and extremely heavy. Keeping in mind this is not something I would have installed and then return it if I didn't like it - so I had to be very confident this was the right one. This unit really sucks it in. I tested, not just tissues, but paper towels. The vents hold it right up there. As far as smoke, it sucks it right in (and out the side of the house). The price is fantastic. $239, but there was a promo, so it came to $203. I didn't even realize that until I was at checkout. Nice surprise. There is not a huge difference between low, medium and high, but there is a difference. As far as noise - this is a super strong Range Hood, so you will have noise - but the tradeoff is that this will really suck in the smoke. Also, we use the back vent. You can hear the dampers fluttering a little. But it is so strong. Outside our vent, we have small trees. The leaves actually blow around when the unit is on. It looks easy to clean - it has grease catchers. For about $100 more Tatsumaki has a "self-clean" model. It appears to be the same unit with the cleaning option. I did not spring for that, but it looks interesting. As far as installation, width was fine. However, my handyman did have to do some slight modifications in the back to make it work. If you are venting from the top, it is probably much easier. Our prior model was a fairly typical USA brand that installed a bit easier (though nowhere as strong). If you are installing with a back vent, I would recommend hiring someone. If you are venting from the top, you may be able to do this yourself. For the price point and the suction, I highly recommend this model. ... show more
