Where do I begin? First, it's made in China, so you can expect cheap parts. And that's what you get. All plastic and a couple of wires. Second, it doesn't work. However, there are a couple of good things to point out about the product. One: It's easy to assemble. Two: You get a cheap headset for free. Initially purchased for use during paranormal investigations, I have found that I spend more time listening to the digestion of my teammates more than anything else. Turns out most demonic activity is a combination of lactose intolerance and junk food. While not really a true parabolic mic, the unit does amplify sounds in a way that is interesting to observe. The recording function is practically useless and there's nothing directional about the mic at all, but if you want to hear a mouse fart from across the room in real time, this will do it. The reality is that the small mic simply has a gain booster built in making things sound bigger than they are. Everything else about it is a toy for looks. Provided there are no solid obstructions you could listen to your spouse, Linda, set up a secret meet up with her lover from across the house. Then you can follow them and find out the truth that she's been sleeping with your boss. Incomparable to other products, as nobody sells a parabolic mic in this price range. Way to corner the market China. The headphones it comes with, while cheap are surprisingly comfortable. The over ear design with faux leather earcups give the illusion of professionalism when using in front of a client. The first unit was defective (obstruction in the scope), but I had a replacement the next day - bravo. The amplifier is very wide band and produces a lot of hiss, which is probably to be expected on a unit in this price range. However, you can improve the performance significantly by adding an external headphone equalizer as shown in the accompanying picture. With this setup, I eliminated the hiss and could clearly hear birds hopping on tree bark at 3.5 KHz. I could also clearly hear helicopter rotor blade noise at 250 Hz even though I could barely make out noise without the microphone (never saw the helicopter). This is meant for my nephew (and he will get it), but I had to try it first. It is scary powerful. You can listen to conversations (and any sound, for that matter) from really far away! Audio quality is surprisingly good for something of this price range. I popped the 12V battery, plugged the provided headphones, and BOOM! It is really, really cool! ... show more

The thing came decently packaged but once I got the device out of the box it just felt very poorly made. I took it to the woods with my son and the first time that I let him use it the headphones stopped working. It only holds a few seconds of recordings and if you want to record a second time you have to either upload the first file or delete it to hold the second. The only reason that I didn't send it back for a refund is because I just didn't feel like putting up with the refund process. I would not recommend this product to a friend even if I were getting paid to do so. I gave it 2 stars only because I got a couple good laughs with my son only before the battery terminals shorted out and it fried the cheaply made circuit board. ... show more

I bought this to play around with and I'm really impressed with it. It works great from around 30 feet away. You can whisper pretty quietly and still hear it. We've been trying to see how far away we can get but anything past that it gets a little muffled You just have to make sure you aim it directly at what you're trying to hear or it won't pick it up. ... show more

I could not tell any difference in directing the listening device towards my target or away from my target. It just amplifies all of the sounds all around where you are standing. I think to get actual directional use from a listening device, it will have to have a much larger parabolic reflector and have a more sensitive sound tuner. I could do better by holding up a 3 foot long, 2 inch diameter light weight plastic pipe to my ear to zoom in on a particular sound. ... show more
