I works, and holds my Tascam DR-40x well. The pouch doesn't hold too much, but I didn't pay for it to. It'll hold your recorder and some of the smaller peripherals like an SD card, and probably the wind cover for the mics if you bought one. I'd buy again... This fit my TASCAM DR-40 PERFECTLY EXCEPT that if you want to remove the batteries for storage, there is no room in the case for the batteries. IT SEEMS to be a suitable hard case. However, there is no styrofoam padding like there is in the original packing box. Mine stays inside an equipment case anyway so that there is room in the big equipment case for the batteries and a towel to wrap the case in. ... show more

I am still debating if this is the case I actually want to use. It appears sturdy, and the fit is VERY snug. Although there is a netted compartment in the lid, and you CAN fit three AAA batteries in it (along with some SD cards), there really isn't enough clearance to prevent the batteries from pressing rather firmly against the keys and/or the LCD display once the case is closed. I've attached two pictures; one of them shows the gap caused by the batteries. I wouldn't recommend trying it, honestly. Tip: if you are using this case with a DR-40X, I found that it's easier to get the case out by sticking your index finger between the two mics (at the base of the mics) and then lifting the recorder out by tilting it up until you get enough of it out to grasp it. ... show more

I don't even take my h4n out of this case. If you just unzip the top portion of this case so that the headphone chord can come out of it (the case is wide enough for L shaped headphone jacks to be connected at all times). And by unzipping the top portion it also makes it so that the microphone on my h4n can pick things up a little better. But that's really what I like about this case.
