This does an excellent job of identifying fiber endface issues. I do have one negative to say but for me it is not a real negative. It is advertised as a 200x and 400x but, in fact, it is only 200x. The second part of the toggle switch changes the light illumination of the end face so that you can see the core more clearly or see the endface and cladding more clearly. If you are looking for both 200x and 400x, then this might not be the tool for you but it does an excellent job for what I am looking to do with it. ... show more

This was a real disappointment. First of all, even from the get-go this was a problem. Even though the box was sealed (unbroken tape on one end, barcode sticker over the other) it looked used. The surface of the body looked beat up. Take a look at the product listing pictures to see what I mean -- you can see it there. Not boding well so far. Next issue, it took some trial and error to figure out what kind of battery to use. There's no documentation, there are no markings for battery type or orientation... Duracell 76A, with the smaller button end down, was the right size and orientation and allowed me to turn it on. Third, I couldn't even get it to focus on anything other than what is apparently a crack in the glass. At first it seemed odd that my cables would all have the same crack, but then I checked and it was there with no fiber cable attached. But it never even got close to focusing on one of my cable ends. I never saw anything even remotely resembling the end of a fiber cable. Just a crack. Fourth, it is only 200X, unlike the 200/400X advertised. False advertising. Fifth, the hole in the side designed to illuminate the other end of the cable was... missing? It doesn't exist at all on the unit I received. No hole anywhere. Sixth, the viewing angle is very narrow. If your eye isn't lined up perfectly you can't see much of anything. Seventh, in order to look at the end of a duplex LC cable the two ends have to be separated -- when connected the connector will not physically fit into the end of the scope. The paired end is blocked by the adapter itself. Inconvenient at best, a deal breaker for some duplex cables which are actually a single piece rather than being two simplex connectors held together by a clip. Eighth, the whole thing was just dirty. Dust in the lens elements. Fingerprints. It just looked badly made and handled throughout. This thing is junk. Don't buy it. ... show more

I received the fiber microscope a day earlier, so I was able to work on my fiber issues quicker. I used it for a fiber connector repair job and worked great.

    • Adjusting adapter for ST
When scoping the core moved to a corner making it hard to see. I tried adjusting and now I can’t get it back into place. It’s pretty impossible trying to get it to align. I noticed my LC adapter came with it being set bent in the adapter, which is also no centered when scoping.
