    • Fun toy but need to install an app
This acts as a USB camera for your phone/tablet. There is a power dial on the cable which controls the illuminator intensity. It has a weird split-cable for both lightning/usb-c, but that's not a big deal. The one big drawback (with any such phone/tablet-based device) is that you need to install some sort of USB camera app to use it. I had a very hard time finding one that works with it on my Kindle Fire, but the fire is an odd beast, so mileage may vary. Most usb camera apps are dubious (they want lots of permissions they don't need) or cost money or just don't work. You may have to try several before you find one that works (and be sure to uninstall all the old ones). ... show more

I use this little microscope to inspect bad circuit boards. It has large focus ring and it's very easy to focus the camera. Relatively long cable has both USB-C and Lightning plugs. There's blimp on the cable that has built-in LED dimmer potentiometer and shutter trigger button. Instruction manual has QR to download camera app. I had it already installed as this app is very generic and works with many USB-C cameras. I attached 2 images of the same board one normal and another is magnified. I couldn't tell that Q3 transistor was a toast by looking at normal image. However pitted black top on magnified image tells me that this transistor is dead. ... show more
