    • Go slow, and then go even slower
I was super excited to finally get a yarn winder, and this one was really budget friendly and most reviews were 5 stars I took a risk and purchased it. It does work, which is why I gave it 3 stars, unfortunately I found it to be EXTREMELY frustrating to use. I’m unsure of other but mine came with instructions that were very faded, there was a diagram but it was completely illegible. I used this for all of 2 balls of yarn, I could not for the life of me get this to be stable while in use, once you get about 1/4-1/2 of your ball/hank/skein on the winder it starts to get too heavy and falls off of the table so you have to hold it down on the table. I had to go so slowly that it took over 2 hours to wind my 2 balls of yarn, and that time does not include the time I spent untangling any yarn barf. Once the yarn got to a certain size on the winder you can’t take your eyes off of it or the yarn falls off and gets stuck in the gears. This dude not wind my yarn evenly, possibly due to tension issues from having to pause and unravel or pick it out of the gears, if you’re using a hank that’s been set up on a swift I’m unsure if that will be an issue for you. After getting about halfway through my 2nd ball of yarn the winder started making a quiet clicking noise, I checked the gears for anything that could have gotten into them but was unable to find what was making the noise. I had originally planned on using this to turn all of my yarn into cakes so they had an easy center pull for when I crochet or knit, but with all the issues I had with only the 2 balls I used it for it’s my belief that it will not hold up to what I want to use it for, i plan to return it. ... show more
