I purchased my previouse hamilton beach flexbrew several years ago. I liked it well enough to get one for my mom. She also loved it. When mine was on its last leg, I of course, looked to get another. This new one is even better -- mostly because it is "idiot-proof" and I mean that in the nicest way, because my small appliance impaired husband was able to use it with only cursory instruction. I like the coffee maker in general, but it does have a couple of drawbacks. PROS: It keeps the coffee warm all day without cooking it to death. It makes good coffee,, The Stainless Steel Carafe and coffee look nice, Having the Keurig capability is good. Cleaning and upkeep of the outside of the coffee maker is easy. CONS: It is difficult to pour water into the coffee maker without spilling. If you have this on a kitchen counter under a cupboard, you will have to slide it out to fill it. The water tank for the Keurig will tip off the coffee maker and spill if you move the coffee maker and the tank is full. I have my coffee maker on my kitchen counter under a cupboard so I need to pull it out to make the coffee. When trying to move the pot back in place the water tank fell off the coffee maker and made a pretty wet mess of the kitchen. The plastic tank also chipped when it fell onto the counter. I fixed this by emptying the tank and only putting water into the tank when I am going to make a Keurig. The stainless steel carafe will discolor on the inside on the first pot of coffee you make and it is very difficult to clean. Seems to stain with coffee very easily. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I didn’t read the ad completely and while I see no blemish anywhere, the pod lift doesn’t stay open. I also noted the coffee water doesn’t get boiled only hot. So when making a carafe it doesn’t stay hot a long time. I fell in love with the one my sister had, same model. Her’s gets HOT, her carafe keeps the heat. Not sure what the flaw was with this, my guess is the heat. But overall it works as should, very simple to operate. The single serve basket for using your own grounds works great, but is a pan to empty. As the grounds cling. But rinses very easy and stores in the cup holder below. ... show more

After a few months, even with regular cleaning, it still won't make a single cup of coffee without stopping and needing the Brew button pressed again. Often on either the carafe or single cup, my coffee is full of grounds. When it works, coffee is good....but reliability is not great after daily use. But compared to higher priced brand names....acceptable 80% of the time. The Carafe will keep coffee hot for about an hour, but the hot plate has never heated up once and doesn't appear to have a heating element inside. Top loading water with limited countertop space is a pain. The entire maker has to be pulled out to add water in either side. Double filters helps to keep out coffee grounds, but weakens the coffee when brewed. ... show more

I purchased this for my mother as a surprise gift; she'd long wanted a pod brewer and her previous coffee maker was on its last legs. Enter the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew. There are many, many positives to this machine: the coffee maker side produces hot, fresh coffee that stays hot in the carafe for HOURS. If you're feeling really fancy, pre-heat it with some hot water to "prime" it just before brewing. That way, you can take the carafe with you into the living room and you and a guest can enjoy some fine coffee while partaking of pleasant conversation in overstuffed chairs--just like at those expensive boutique coffee houses. Additionally, you'll enjoy the relaxation brought about by not having a pretentious grad student in a black turtle neck looking down his nose at you when you request a refill. On the other side is the pod brewer, which in itself is worth the price of admission. Again, the coffee is hot and fresh-tasting. The variety of pods available for this unit is truly astounding, allowing you to experience many different flavors in an instant. I say "in an instant," and that's pretty accurate for the speed of brewing with the pod brewer. It really is an extraordinary time in which we live--if you're a coffee lover, anyway. Like any coffee maker, you get out of this what you put into it: that is, use fresh, filtered water, quality coffee and clean it once in a while. For the standard brewer, a filtered water/vinegar cocktail run through the brew cycle (followed by a plain water rinse brew) will keep the innards free from the mineral build-up which degrades the coffee making experience. Likewise, you need to clean the pod brewer, and for that I recommend one of the cleaning kits offered here on Amazon. My mother has used this regularly for a number of months and there has not been one single issue. In fact, it has been a source of delight, and she's still tickled by the ability to get a fresh cup of coffee on demand. She brags about her little "coffee shop" to anyone who'll listen.
