IMO the HB brewer that this one replaces was the best hot water dispenser on the market. The upgraded version has + and - , but does maintain the high quality. Here are the changes: Water Tank: the new water tank holds two coffee mugs worth of water. If it does not contain enough water, the brewer will not start. Rather than wait for that, I find it easier to refill it every morning while I'm waiting for the coffee to brew. The plus is that you do not have to measure out the water you need for each and every cup. The old filler had an attached lid; the new one is removable. This means that when you are filling the tank, you have the lid in one hand ... which leaves only one hand free. A small minus, but I'm clumsy in the morning. Front Panel: the old buttons have been replaced by an LCD panel. It's simple, well laid out and easy to use. A big plus. My complaint is that you have to press the power button first to start the machine, and then again to start the brewing process. If you hit it twice too quickly you can start it up before you set the brewing time. Baskets: the same K-cup and DIY baskets are still there. If you just want hot water, leave the empty basket in the machine. Structure. It is measurable thinner and not as deep as the previous version, but the earlier one was pretty small, so no appreciable gain. (They use less material, which is good, but it's not a feature.) The platform that holds the cup can be removed to fill larger vessels. However, the platform now will not hold anything wider than a coffee mug. I used the older on to fill small teapots, so this is out. For me a big minus, but most might not care. The platform on the old one used to have room to store one of the baskets. No longer. Efficiency: It's a bit faster than the old one, and it makes less noise. The capacity button goes from 8-10-12-14 oz. This means that if you want 16 oz, you have to do two 8's. This is not a problem, but worth noting. Summary: it seems to me that the water tank could have been twice as large, especially given the short length of the machine. But that's my only real complaint. I expect to be using it every morning from now on. ... show more

I have had Hamilton Beach Flexbrew that made singles and pots of coffee for years. I am the only one I am making coffee for now. And I needed the space in my coffee area. Oh I am so glad I decided to buy this coffee machine. I makes the best coffee! I know that sounds odd. They are the same coffee pods but I swear the coffee tastes better. I love the size settings for the cups. I love the clearly marked buttons that show up as you start your coffee. ( I am old. What can I tell you? Buttons are fun.) love fact that it has a reservoir for the water; I had a water bottle on the counter for my old machine. And I love the narrow profile and the bonus was it was short enough to fit under the shelf! The only thing that I would change is to add a clock somewhere on it. I do miss the clock on my old FlexBrew. Which by the way was still chugging out coffee just at the end of its days. Hamilton Beach has my sincere recommendation. ... show more

I ordered this to replace our Keurig which lasted maybe 2 years. Pros: you can make a strong brew, which "we like." A larger water canister. Various cup sizes. More compact with a narrow profile. K cup holder is removable which is nice when it's hot, and making another cup immediately. It will accomodate tall mugs. It has a separate mesh basket for fresh grounds. It's very easy to use, and quite attractive in a simple appearance. Cons: a little coffee splashes out of a regular size cup, because it has only one stream of water, as opposed to 3 which I believe the Keurig had, which probably prevents this from happening. I deducted 1 star due to this, because I can't give 4 1/2. We thought we would try a brand other than Keurig, which even after cleaning it several times, it still would not put out water. But...even with the bit of splashing, I would highly recommend it. I had thoughts of sending it back because of this, but Im tired of researching coffee makers. This brand has been around for years. Everything seems to be made to be disposable anymore, so you can replace them in a year or 2. I haven't tried the ice coffee yet, but I am looking forward to it, since it was one of the additional features that had me order it. I would recommend this coffee maker. It feels solid and durable. Overall, a good choice, and I researched MANY, without having to break the bank. We are coffee lovers, so the options and choice was important. Pretty happy with it! Hope this helps. ... show more

Could never get a strong enough cup from my Keurig using the fill your own kcup. The basket in this seems to hold more coffee since it's larger that a kcup. Set it on bold and it was so much better. Very happy with this product.

I purchased this single serve coffee maker to replace a traditional small drip type maker with carafe. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. Pros: Brews faster than the carafe type maker, uses less ground coffee for the same strength/quality brew as carafe style maker, doesn't require a carafe so less washing, can use regular ground coffee as well as pods. Cons: Permanent filter allows grounds to seep thru so #1 cone paper filter is required when using loose ground coffee, max output is 14 oz per cup, inside top and sides of permanent filter are coated with grounds after brewing which makes cleaning a chore. ... show more
