It's been great
I see many reviews saying it was great to begin with but later on they were getting coffee grounds in their coffee. I don't try to use anything but the Keurig pods and hot tea. I'm not switching back and forth between pods and trying to brew a single cup of coffee. I haven't had a problem with it. Now there are times when it stops around 3 oz but it does start back up and finishes the exact amount I tell it to. Inconsistent brewing and poor customer service at Hamilton Beach!
I have replaced this machine 2 times - the first within a couple of weeks of purchasing, the machine turning on by itself, and also with poor quality brewing. The machine was under warranty so was able to try again with another machine - same model I have had the new machine for several months and have constant brewing issues, which include weak brewing coffee when making a carafe - even on the bold setting and using excessive amounts of ground coffee. I cannot tell you how much coffee has been thrown away because of weak tasteless coffee (which is an expensive brand being used). This in addition to the timer staying on for over 4 hours after it's brewing time is a safety issue to me. Who wants wait around for the coffee machine to turn off!? Also, the single server (whether using the hot or cold option) splatters and spits all over the countertop, but does eventually makes an okay cup of coffee... Just a lot of unnecessary noise and clean-up. I have spoken to Hamilton beach staff - who seemed kind of defensive and apathetic during the conversation (with no resolution). I have also written to Hamilton beach who are unwilling to give a refund - only offering to utilize my warranty as an option. BUT honestly I do not want to replace this machine for another one. My experience with this product has been pretty bad. My experience with Hamilton beach customer service, unhelpful. I will not be buying another product again form them again! ... show more

Very Nice Upgrade
Arrived 8/23. All pieces accounted for. Followed first time water brew instructions through both the carafe side and single serve side. Couple of things to note: 1 - I DO NOT use pods so I cannot provide a transparent review in regard to how great or not-so-great this item is for that; 2 - yes, there is steam output, but nothing more than my old 12-cup carafe pot Mainstays brand from Walmart did; just don't position the machine under the cabinets OR take advantage of the steam and wipe the underside of the cabinets; 3- Single Serve ground coffee filter: if you don't like grounds in your coffee the instructions do suggest a #1 cone filter so use it if you don't like grounds in your coffee. I did the max. 3 tablespoons grounds to 10 oz of water, single serve, on bold brew - I will be using a cone filter moving forward as there was close to a tablespoon of grounds in the bottom of my cup, but the coffee before the last sips was brewed to my liking. My item arrived with the reservoir tank in the back. Being so excited, I noticed the sticker on the tank. Halfway through following said instructions on said tank I realized it was for repositioning the tank to the side of the unit. I stopped because I wanted the tank in the back of the unit. Pieces for single serve portion of unit are easy to place and remove. Again, I do not use pod coffee so I have the pieces designated for pod coffee removed and stored in my coffee cabinet for when they are needed. For the single serve ground coffee experience please see previous paragraph. The swing basket for the carafe grounds takes a moment to get used to. If it doesn't close easily the basket is not positioned in the right spot - stop and reposition DO NOT FORCE CLOSE SWING DOOR. Touch interface is not super sensitive (in my opinion) but also doesn't require much pressure to interact with the interface. I was able to set the clock, the delay brew, and change between single serve/carafe and select volumes with ease. Will likely upload a video as I found that helpful when I was combing through the reviews. Will likely touch base in 6 months as well (or sooner if need be) should there be any landmark changes as expressed in previous reviews from other purchasers. ... show more

Everything you need!
I LOVE this coffee maker. No, REALLY!!! LOVE IT! Best feature? You can set up water reservoir in the back or on the left. I needed this flexibility for my kitchen set up, as this sits on top of my microwave and is too high for me to reach a back fill reservoir. It's very easy to fill on the side, although it is also very easy to remove and fill at the sink. Second-best feature? We're pod people, but I love the flexibility of being able to make a LARGE pot of coffee if company comes. I used to have to pull out the old percolator. Finally? The coffee is great. You've got every choice you need on a simple front panel 8/10/12 oz. (or a pot, etc.) Regular or bold. I think Ice, too, but we haven't tried that yet. Now - will it stand the test of time? My Keurig lasted a year. (Lame!) My last brand, five years (very good, but no longer available.) Fingers crossed - if this one makes it 5 years, I will be super satisfied. (We are using filtered-at-the-sink water due to very high mineral content in our area - clogs coffee makers!) If I'd change anything, I'd hinge the lid to the water reservoir. I just Jerry-Rigged it with a piece of duck tape - duck hinge! (The last thing I need before my 1st cup of coffee in the morning is trying to figure out where I put the lid down.) Second, instead of the higher cup lift (for regular coffee cups -who uses those anyway?) I'd like to see a larger foot to place your tall thermos cups, one that includes a drainage cover. These are quite minor issues, but things we have noticed as we've used it. Again - this unit is perfect for our needs - and a great value to boot! ... show more

HORRIBLE - ZERO STARS - GROUNDS EVERY TIME I USE A POD!
HORRIBLE! ZERO STARS! Almost every time you use a pod you get grounds. Not just a few, but the entire bottom of the cup. I have cleaned, I have descaled, I have cleaned the needle, I have used different pods, I have used my own coffee with a reusable pod. Nothing corrects the problem. I bought the machine at the end of January and it worked well for about a month or two and then progressively has gotten worse with noise and grounds. Stick to a Keurig or other brand (I had a Bunn that did pods) that knows coffee. Oh! and customer support at Hamilton Beach... The link to message doesn't show up and it says to correct the cookie setting. I did. I even used a different browser. Still no help so I had to send them an email for customer support. No phone number, but the website shows Mexico has a phone number. I then checked Amazon's info on them and there is a phone number - great, right?... No you call and it is a recording of a guy that sounds like he is in a bathroom and tells you to visit the website for support - which, again, is just an email! Stay away from Hamilton Beach products if you need to contact someone for support. Bunn and Keurig have live people to talk to! Update 5/7- Sent two more emails- still no support. BUY A DIFFERENT PRODUCT! ... show more

I’ve been a Keurig customer for years, but after having to replace the machine every 2 years or less, I decided to give another brand a try. My main reasons for purchasing this Hamilton Beach 5 in 1? The versatility, sleek space saving design, and the reviews. I love that I can use k-cups or brew a full pot!! The water reservoir is slim, but holds up to 12 cups/60 oz. The water reservoir can be changed to use it on the side or the back of the machine, depending on your space, and no tools are required. Just follow the steps. It takes about 2 minutes or less to brew a k-cup, either hot or iced, and the coffee is good! You can select regular or bold brew and you can brew up to 14 ounces!! The carafe is tucked away on the side, it brews a full pot in maybe 15-20 minutes, it’s hot, and the warmer stays on for 2 hours after the brew cycle with an automatic shut off. Coffee can be regular or bold brew and it has a programmable timer to be ready when you wake up. Again, the coffee is GOOD!! The design is space saving genius, the display face shows the time, and is pretty easy to navigate yourself or read the directions which are easy to follow and understand. The needles to poke through the k-cups are slightly larger than the Keurig’s I’ve owned but I’ve had no issues with unwanted coffee grounds, outside of the norm. Now to the thing that took away a star… the cup holder plate thing. I don’t like it. It doesn’t snap in, it just sits there which feels sort of clumsy. I like bigger, rounder cups and they don’t feel secure sitting on the holder. The larger cups will fit on it, but I personally think a larger base with a snap in/out feature would be wise and definitely earn its 5 star glory. You get a great looking coffee maker perfect for small spaces with the versatility and functionality many coffee drinkers need at a very reasonable price point. I’m so happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend!! I did buy the extended warranty, but this also comes with a manufacturer’s limited warranty too. I find it doesn’t hurt to spend a few extra bucks up front to cover the whole thing for (hopefully) years to come. ... show more

Well worth the price
I an very pleased with this coffe maker. It is very sleek and don't take up much space. I like that I can program it for the morning. It heats up fast not alot of dripping when it is done. The coffe is hot not like some others. The caraf I have not used yet so Wan not comment on this part. I like that it has different sizes to choose from. Highly recommend. ... show more

Hard Water Beware
Great unless you have even slightly hard water. I went through 2 of these units in less than a year. It has a feature on it, which sounds nice, that tells you when to clean it. By clean, it means to descale it. But when it says this, it shuts down the heating mechanism. So, essentially it wont keep the coffee hot. I run a cleaning cycle every 2 weeks, even though its suggested every few months. I use the cleaning pods, and also use vinegar. Also, I only use filtered or bottled water. Never tap water. And this thing just keeps claiming it needs cleaned. I make one pot of coffee per day. So, ots not like Im over-using, or under-cleaning this thing. I am constantly trying to keep it fresh. I love the shape of it. It fits perfectly on our countertop without taking up much space at all. And it makes very good coffee. I just wish I could get a few weeks without having to fully clear this thing. Today, it finally conked out and will not stop saying "clean". I ran 5 cycles with cleaning pods, and 2 cycles with vinegar and still it says "clean". Also, this is my SECOND one in less than a year. The first one did this immediately. This one lasted a few months as long as I kept cleaning it. I spent a fortune on the cleaners. Bottom line is, its not worth it. Get one without the fancy "clean" alert/shutdown. I GUESS if you have soft water, maybe it will work better. Im just very disappointed because it was the perfect size and shape for us. And it made good coffee. Good luck. ... show more
