I had purchased another coffee maker and it was a pour over but it would make coffee by itself at night coffee that was cold not hot and it was not on. I should have got this one when I was first choosing between the two because this one fits easy under a cabinet or wherever you have it in a dorm room. Overall: This coffee maker makes really good tasting coffee & is programmable so you can have coffee ready and waiting for whatever time you want. Depending on your expertise with coffee and coffee makers, my review may either be relatable or totally off what your expectations are. In terms of overall quality; if we say a professional, copper tubing, 'steam-punk' looking contraption that costs $5k is a 10 on a scale of 1-10, and a standard boring coffee maker is a 1, I'd say this is a 3 or 4. Looks: It's mostly plastic, but was aesthetically designed well with a sleek techy look and nice lighting, and a touch screen. It does look cool for the price point. I just wanted an auto-programmable pour-over system and it works great for that and makes really good coffee. The good: -the flavor is great -programmability to automatically make coffee -options to drill down into specifics like a weight scale w/ability to measure the right amount of grounds vs H2O to add -Bloom and strength settings if you're into that level of detail - the lights are pretty cool when it is brewing coffee. Nothing annoying, just nice subtle internal lights that make an otherwise plasticky (is that a word?) device look more "sleek" Bad: -Touch screen is a little user-unfriendly, kinda glitchy, but works once you figure out the process. -coffee seems to splatter fine-droplets around the machine as coffee is being made. prepare to wipe up each time a pot is brewed -hot water flowing through plastic pieces; not sure about the BPA issues if you're worried about that - the carafe's glass is definitely on the "thin" side. I guarantee its just a matter of months before I accidentally hit it on my sink and break it while cleaning it. -There's a 2 piece filter holder design/insert that needs better engineering; it feels like it doesnt properly fit together. I have not tried "pour-over" coffee machines before, and this does provide good taste. It has many options, but it is a little tricky to program. Unfortunately, it did not come with a user's manual and Amazon customer service department can be difficult to reach. The brew strength option is excellent, and it really can make a significant difference. ... show more

We’ll so far I’m really loving the coffee maker!! Some reviews say there’s no replacement for the glass coffee carafe, if you go on Hamilton beach web page there are replacement carafe and other parts. So far the Brew has been great. Really great taste and nice and hot. Easy to follow directions too. I haven’t used the programmable setting yet but I will with the start of the work week, I highly recommend this coffee maker!! ... show more

Pros: Great tasting coffee Scale helps always make the same strength Looks sleek on counter Cons: Plastic carafe insert is not functional, makes coffee taste bad when used. When making 7 or 8 cups of coffee it creates splatters on machine and surrounding countertop Scale does not always zero out correctly, requires double-checking Programming the coffee is not intuitive, the “select” button does everything but select. Should be labeled “toggle”. After one year of use the silver detailing along the swiveling drip top piece is peeling away. This seems to be a poor design choice as clearly this piece is meant to be exposed to hot steam daily. Overall I don’t regret this purchase because when it comes down to it I just want my coffee to taste good. However it would be nice if it were more functionally designed. ... show more
