  • a $27.43 lesson
Color: Green
used 1 time to make cake, and 3 times on brownies. Got it July 25, and haven't been in kitchen much, so only used it 4 times within the 8 weeks...4th time smelled awful, motor overheating. Stunk up whole kitchen. Only option is to deal with their customer service-- which wants me to pay to return it, or cut the wire and pay them $11.49 for s/h on another one. I'm not turning the $27.43 lesson into a $38 lesson!! This mixer is NOT worth it. Because of the customer service, I will NEVER buy another Hamilton Beach product ever again. Also- the low speed is about equivalent to medium-medium/high on a normal mixer...there is no "slow" speed if that's what you need. ... show more

  • These things are junk!
Color: Green
These things are junk -- but I got what I paid for. I had one that lasted about a year (bought at local store). Mixer still works -- but beater rusted and broke. (They are VERY cheaply made!) I tried to buy just replacement beaters, and the new mixer (with new beaters) was almost as cheap, so I opted to just buy a new mixer. My new mixer has already stopped working. Mixing cookie dough the other day and started smelling it burning! Fortunately, I kept my old mixer and will use the new beaters with it -- until they either rust in two -- or the mixer stops working! Unfortunately, I've even bought KitchenAid hand mixers that don't last long either -- and they're pricier (and no; I don't use it that much!). Wish I could find a good -- not heavy -- hand mixer that would last a while! (I have a large cabinet-top KitchenAid mixer, but it's not feasible for 'every day' -- which is most of my use. Any suggestions would be appreciated!) ... show more

  • Fabulous!
Color: Green
I LOVE THIS. I haven't had a 'good' mixer in my adult life. I always just get the maybe second cheapest option, and before too long it breaks. And, it's always filthy, because it splatters everywhere. I'd forgotten what it was like (as a child/teen) to use a mixer and have it *not* splash everywhere. I can't explain the excitement of beating eggs with *NO SPLASH* for the first time in 25 years. It's fabulous. And, there's no more "somebody put my beaters in the wrong place" because they go in the handy little box. This makes me happy. ... show more

  • Not very durable
Color: Green
We only used this 3 or 4 times and it started smelling like the motor was burning up. Just used on pancake batter. Not very durable. It does have some nice features though, you can stand it up and have the beaters over the bowl while adding more ingredients. It is comfortable to hold. Also the snap/latch on the storage box broke the first time we tried to put it together. Had to store mixer separately from storage box after that. ... show more

  • Perfectly good hand mixer
Color: Blue
Works well. Mashes a 5 -pound batch of potatoes every week, sometimes more, without complaint. A double batch of thick cookie dough gave it a hard time, but it didn't break down. The beater release is the trigger in the handle. It seems like it might be easy to pull it by mistake. Well, in 18 months, that has never happened, so never mind. The storage box underneath is a good idea that does not quite work. It is too cumbersome or awkward to use. I keep the beaters in it, but it winds up next to the mixer on the shelf, not neatly attached to the mixer. It is still going, we are happy with it for the price. ... show more

  • It's alright for the price - 3 years
Color: Green
I've had this mixer for three years now. It still works, but I can tell it's starting to slow down and lack power. I'm not sure how much longer it'll hold on for. I definitely don't keep all of the attachments inside the case or I don't know how they'd all fit. I only keep the egg beaters in there and the dough hooks and whisk I keep in a drawer. I fail to see what the "easy access door" is for, but whatever. It still works fine 3 years down the road, which is much better than a lot of reviews so I've been lucky. I remember when I first bought it I thought the speed was outstanding, so I guess it's just worn out over time. I don't use it excessively--once a month? I guess I've gotten what I expected since it wasn't super cheap but it wasn't super expensive either. Update: It's just a few weeks shy of 4 years I've owned this mixer. I've used it almost heavily for the past year--meaning I make cookies about once a week or every two week or so. The strength has greatly reduced and the last few times I've used it I've detected a burning smell coming from the motor, so I'm in the market for a new mixer. ... show more

  • Almost as advertised
Color: Green
I would have given this 5 stars, except that the Snap on Case does not snap on all the way. It snaps to the back of the mixer, but not to the front, which allows the case to fall off if all the attachments are inside the case with the mixer cord. After I put the cord inside the case, I could not fit all the attachments inside the case because, as I mentioned before, the case does not really snap on. I put the wire beaters inside the case with the cord because I expect to use them the most and the other attachments are in my utensil drawer. This way the mixer rests on the case without rising up and falling off. Still, I placed the case and mixer next to the side of the cabinet so hopefully I won't bump the mixer and knock it off the case when taking other things out or putting them in the cabinet. The mixer is sitting on top of the case rather precariously. I do like that this mixer really does have a slow speed instead of being like my previous mixer that acted like it was off to the races, even when it was set to mix on low. I like the pulse and burst features on this mixer. I like that it has markings where the beaters are inserted, so you can tell which beater goes into which slot. Now, how long will it last? Your guess is as good as mine but for now, it's about as good as it gets. ... show more

  • When mixing any kind of powder like flour or powdered sugar she can use the pulse ...
Color: Blue
Wife loves the pulse function. When mixing any kind of powder like flour or powdered sugar she can use the pulse feature to slowly mix the ingredients without throwing them out of the bowl. Once they are blended enough she is able to go to higher speeds without throwing flour or powdered sugar all over the place. Other mixers on the lowest speed even though they were very slow would still throw flour and sugar out of her mixing bowl. The pulse function eliminates this problem by TAPPING the pulse feature (not holding it down) until it is mixed enough to turn it to higher speeds. Way to go Hamilton Beach! ... show more
