I wasn't happy with my old toaster because it didn't have a bagel setting. I found this one and it's perfect for my kitchen; steel with copper accents. It fits right in, and it does a good job toasting bagels and English muffins, too. Happy.

From the reviews it looks like a percentage of these have defects out of the box where they stop working after a short time, more than one out of ten. That's way too many and Haden needs to address the manufacturing issues. That said, we received a "good" one about four months ago and it does everything right. We use it for bagels (face the insides of the bagel towards the outsides of the toaster, push the lever down, and press the Bagel button), regular and sourdough breads. Once you get to know the timer dial (takes a few weeks of use) it's no problem to get the right amount of toasting for breads or bagels. And it toasts evenly for us regardless. The cleaning tray slides out easily, but doesn't have upturned side rails so you have to be careful to keep it level on the way to dumping it. As far as the manufacturing smells go, we put ours outside on the front porch and ran it empty at the full-dial longest time setting about fifteen times and it was all gone. Our previous toaster had the same requirement so it's like the manufacturers are putting the pre-conditioning off onto the consumer to lower their costs. Or maybe it's just the nature of Chinese manufacturing. All in all, if you're one of the 85% that gets a non-defective unit it's a very good toaster from a UK company with a nice visual design.

Love it! So cute in my cottage kitchen. Got the single serve coffee maker to match and will likely get the little microwave as well. Always remember to face your bagels cut side out as indicated in the instructions and push the bagel button.

I chose this toaster for it's retro look and I'm very pleased with the overall appearance of the item. It feels substantial as well. Similar to other comments, I've found it is easy to "overdo" the toast color but keeping it on a lower setting was fine for us. The instructions indicated that their might be an odor during the first several uses, and we did experience this. We expected it, no big deal. It resolved after several "test" slices of bread. Happy with it so far - hope it has good longevity!

The most important thing to know about this toaster is how unevenly it heats food. For example, I put an English muffin in the toaster and it burnt half of both pieces and undercooked the other half. In order to get something toasted properly, you will have to take it out halfway thru cooking, turn it, and continue toasting. I might be willing to do that for a $5 toaster I got at the local thrift shop. But for $70-80?? Nope. No way. If you care more about the looks and don’t mind babysitting over-priced appliances, go for it. It’s certainly a pretty toaster and looks lovely on the countertop. But you can buy a prettier decoration for your countertop if that’s your primary goal. If you want an appliance that works the way it’s supposed to, there are far better toaster options out there. I’ll be returning mine.
