Nice quality. Heavy cord. Ordered because it's stainless steel. Plan to use in the cold NY winter so my chickens will always have water. I'll update review once I actually start using it this winter on how good it works.

Our last heater base cover was plastic and due to the sever temps this winter cracked. I am more than pleased with this base. My chickens have fresh clean drinkable water daily and this type of base was recommended by a salesperson at a local national brand feed supply company. We will never buy a top plastic cover heater again!! 🐔

Its ok. I am currently using this on my metal trough 5 gallon waterer and it still freezes the trough when temperature’s get into the 20’s and below. I probably would try to find something different next time as I don’t feel it keeps up in the Colorado winter.

It is easy to use and it works when temperatures dropped well below freezing, even in the coop, but the heater is smaller than the base of most standard waterers. We still had to connect a hook to the top of the coop and add a chain to the waterer because if a bird hit or knocked into the waterer, it would slide off of the heating base and water would drain out all over the floor. The chain and hook solved the problem, but a larger unit would be better.

Update: doesn’t work when under 10 degrees outside. Similar inside the coop (not mine, but I take care of the chickens),& it doesn’t work to -10 degrees F. Extended periods of cold weather below 20 degrees, not effective. Like another reviewer said, the top freezes solid, which makes sense. Just hooked it up, because we had some freezing temperatures. So far, so good,& I hope it continues to work well. Winter has just started & its not too bad, low temperature wise, so the real test is yet to come

Well, the first one was inop as the thermostat never cut the unit off when the temp went up, so it actually evaporated all the water out of the container. Amazon is sending a replacement and hopefully it will work as it should. Not a whole lot to the thing, looks like a stainless steel pie pan with heater in it. It is exactly 12 inches around the bottom lip. Since this is intended for use around poultry, and maybe in a wet environment, it has no markings that you would expect on an electrical device, power requirements, watts used, warnings about not getting the underside wet, or a UL Listing. Not even a brand name on the unit itself, even the box had no writing on it about its contents, so makes me wonder about it's overall quality.
