  • Simple and brilliant idea to learn the fretboard
Was recently listening to Howard Stern. He is learning guitar and mentioned this book. I have played for over 40 years and think that this technique for learning the fretboard is great! I caught on super quick and have been practicing the exercises daily. I used to have trouble with the notes on the d, g and b strings. But in just a few days, I am already way better at them. ... show more

  • Finally feel like I'm getting the hang of guitar
I've always been a lover of music and when I was a child I was very passionate about playing the drums. Unfortunately, as I grew up I fell out of practice with it and become more of a consumer rather than a producer of music. For the past year or so I've really wanted to get back to playing music and learning the guitar just seemed like the best option given how versatile the instrument is. Initially, I started with youtube guides and tutorials but didn't feel like I was getting the information in a structured way, it was more like learning in a piecemeal fashion. So I opted to pick up this book hoping it would give me the structure I was looking for, & thankfully it has! This really is such a fantastic book for a beginner like me, I finally feel like I'm making real progress in my guitar playing. Knowing where my fingers need to be to make a certain sound has been challenging but after going through this book for just a few days I've been able to memorize most of the fretboard! After another weekend I think I'll have it all memorized. I'm very happy I picked up this book! ... show more

  • Nicely formatted with simple steps
The book has a great layout, nicely formatted with background images. It stands out from the crowd. The steps and visuals are straightforward and easy to follow. The only downside is that black text is not readable on a dark background on a few pages.

  • Your work will be rewarded
This book is elegantly simple. Novice musicians want to play so much that they hurry through and understand. The piece they miss is understanding is great, but you won't play any better. This course is designed in such a way you aren't bombarded with the authors "tips" or theory. This is a get down a "do it" book Nick is inviting you to bring the neck inside your hands and head. Knowing the neck is not a head thing alone, it's a hand thing and later a head thing. I'm not saying its easy, cause it's a lot of work, in small pieces, stretched out over time. Take a deep dive into his method and you'll be the better for it. ... show more

  • Just trying to learn...
I really wanted to write a 3 star review but I can't bring myself to do it. The author seems like a small business owner and passionate musician and I want to see the value in his book but I cannot shake the feeling I've been scammed. Out of 55 numbered pages there are 9 that have actual lessons printed on them. The lessons (albeit seemingly effective) really only offer the outline of basic exercises that you repeat faster and faster. The appendix takes up 31 pages and includes simple charts and blank tab pages. As someone trying to learn more about the guitar I feel like I was taken advantage of after buying this book. ... show more

  • Very Nice!
After I picked up my guitar after a 30 year hiatus, I had forgotten more than I remembered. My previous playing style wasn't one to advance on. Slamming out 'power chords' with abandon worked as garage band, but no further. I started searching for good books I could use to create a solid working knowledge of the guitar. This is a great learning tools. I'd recommend this to anyone that isn't as grounded as they should be or who wants to improve on their knowledge and playing skills ... show more

  • Nick Morrison is a Guitar Guru
Many guitarists cannot name the frets on the fretboard. I was one of these before this book. This book taught me the basic building blocks of the instrument, the notes. These 6 easy exercises made for a step by step approach that got me results fast and painlessly. I also found these exercises to be very beginner friendly. Just put 15 minutes per day in with this book and you will be shocked at the results you are able to produce. Thanks Nick! ... show more

  • Practice, Practice, Practice
This book provides you with guidance for directed practice to learning the guitar fretboard. It is not a magical fix for eliminating long practice sessions to achieve mastery of the fretboard but it is a structured guidance book for your practice efforts.
