  • Not too late to learn…
I am taking guitar lessons at 70 years old. The book is clear and takes things slowly. I have a teacher and he recommended this book.

  • Good beginners book
I would recommend purchasing the book that contains the audio files instead of this book that doesn’t. It’s well worth the few dollars more and makes your learning experience less intimidating and frustrating. I purchased book 2 and 3 with the audio files. Much better experience. Overall the lesson books are very good. ... show more

  • Best starter guitabook
As a guitar teacher I have been using this book for 20 years- it is an excellent starter for all guitarists. Of course I supplement it with songs that I give them to also learn chords earlier than the book introduces them... because I think it is more fun for students to also play and strum songs... but this is my go to to teach reading music and playing melodies and understanding basic music theory in a very gradual practical way. ... show more

Excellent book. Kinda nice that they teach you the notes on a string one at a time. However right after you learn the 4th string it skips to a couple chords and then resumes to learning the 5th string about 10 pages later. Just make sure you use the table of contents. You need to skip around at times for a more logical flow. Also, it would be nice if scales were in the book which incorperated what you learned thus far. I got these from my guitar teacher. I feel the book is really good but it is missing just a little something. I would still recommend it over other books I have seen. ... show more

  • Great for beginners
This book is fantastic for beginners. I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, but reading sheet music and learning the fingerings intimidated me. This book has blown that intimidation away. Excellent for anyone looking to learn how to play.

  • A great classic
I've been using this book for 10 years with students ranging in age from 1st grade through 8th and really like the clear introduction to the notes and chords and basic music theory. I also appreciate that it is not dumbed down like some of the newer releases.
