Description

The Guardian Safe-T Ladder Extension System is designed to attach to the top of a ladder to provide a safe and easy transition from the ladder to a raised surface. It requires no tools, drilling, or bolting to install, and is one of the most effective means of improving the safety of nearly any ladder. Once installed, it provides 2 offsetting handrails that offer a point of walkthrough to step on or off the ladder. This patented piece of equipment assists workers in complying with OSHA standard 1926.1053(b), which states, “When portable ladders are used for access to an upper landing surface, the ladder side rails shall extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface to which the ladder is used to gain access.” The Safe-T Ladder Extension is incredibly simple to use, tightens onto a ladder by hand, and will never scratch or damage the ladder to which it is attached. The unit has a safety latch that prevents it from slipping off the ladder, it is specially designed with cushioned bumper pads to help protect the eave of the roof, and its handgrips help ensure maximum safety. If you work on roofs and need to transition from ladder to roof, GET THIS!!! The way this attaches to the ladder is crazy simple and works like a charm. Someone really though through making the attachment as simple and quick as possible, while also maintaining a rock solid attachment. I can get both on my ladder in less than 30 seconds. Removal is just as fast. It's also much lighter than expected. Still adds some top weight, so be careful when rotating it up in place. I use it on a 16 ft extension ladder and can do it solo easy. Anything longer and you probably want some assistance. As always make sure your ladder footing and upper contact point is SECURE. This is important whether you use this attachment or not. But a sound footing and contact point, PLUS this attachment...and you have a VERY safe ladder and ladder/roof transition. If anything, it makes things so easy you might forget to remember "safety". Before, when performing the side transition to roof, I always went through a mental safety checklist. With this attachment, I just go up and on without a thought. So...remember, you still need to do your mental safety checklist, even when using this attachment. Fewer things to worry about, but you still need to have the proper mindset. Always concerned for the safety of people on our team and watching people get on an off a ladder when transitioning to the roof... always made my stomach turn. So I decided to do something about that feeling. I purchased the "Little Giant, SumoStance" ladder and added "Guardian Fall Protection 10800 Safe-T Ladder Extension System" system to it. At first the guys I have to admit the guys laughed a but but by the end of the first day everyone was sold. Simply made getting on and off the roof a non-issue. The ladder adds stability and the Guardian adds confidence. My only real gripe is the locking system needs more flexibility in it's design... it will not lock in place. Not a true issue as it is solid when slid into place and due to the added length we take the system off when moving job sites. I'd recommend to anyone looking to add a bit of ease and safety to the job site. ... show more

The product is well designed and attempts to cover all aspects of different sizes of ladder rails. It hits on the main issue Ive had for years and thats going from the ladder to the roof and back again - safely. In that case on my recent ladder purchase, I can attest that these will not work with Little Giant Hyperlite unless slightly modified. In speaking with Guardian Fall Protection, the design has an interior shim/ clamp which its sole purpose is to allow smaller side rails to be installed and then the clamp tightens to make the contact between the rails and the Safe-T Ladder system rock solid. In my case I found the ladder rails to be as wide as the original opening of the metal c channel found on the Safe-T Ladder System. So once the ladder came in contact with the long metal shim that adjusts for ladder widths, the process almost ground to a halt. I felt that if the internal shim was removed, the width of the ladder would allow for the Safe-T ladder system to remain very stable, seeing the fit was seemingly perfect at the start. In the end, I wedged mine down a bit further with a dead blow hammer as I needed to get a project started and haven't experienced any shifting or movement since. While not ideal in installation, I would thing it would take two trucks in a pulling contest to separate these from the ladder. These ladder extensions have made my work life a lot safer and they do the job of making it SO much easier to transition from the ladder to the roof and roof to the ladder. Product design, durability, and overall function is at 5 star level. The reason for the 1 star deduction was the units arrived a little beat up. The packaging is not sufficient enough to protect the units from the rigors of shipping. My box was crushed and deformed with holes exposing the inside of the package. These guys are heavy enough where they should be encased in foam to protect the extensions and the box from impact damage. ... show more

I got to say that this was a questionable purchase when I made it. These are very expensive. But wow, what a difference they make. I use them along with a building standoff on the ladder. I also have someone hold the bottom of the latter so it does not kickout. These extensions are very well made, do not need any adapters or shims (must have been an older model) and allow you to walk right thru over the top of the ladder like they say they do. Also, when you are coming back down, they give you something to get your hands on BEFORE you get to the edge of the roof. No doubt about it, these are an excellent investment for anyone wanting to climb up a ladder and step OFF of the ladder and onto a roof or other surface. I highly recommend them. Money well spent. Update: 6/19/2014 I have used this product around a dozen times since I have purchased it and my review still stands. Excellent safety product. One thing that you should have in the back of your mind when thinking about purchasing this product is this... with a normal extension ladder, the ladder itself extends up past the roof line. And you must step step off of the ladder around the side of the ladder onto the roof. That may be a bit nerve racking getting onto the roof, but I can tell you from experience, it is much, much worse coming off of the roof and stepping back onto the ladder. The ladder will want to push away from you in the opposite direction you are trying to step onto it. You could be left hanging by your finger tips or worse. Been there, done that. I purchased this item on November 30, 2018 for a roof project I needed to do. I just now on 3/9/21 opened the box to do the project. Yes, it took over 2yrs just to open the box. However, it did its job and it did it well. The good: - Excellent quality metal used in the construction of this item. - Not flimsy - Excellent grips and totally make you feel secure when accessing the roof. The bad: - It makes the ladder top heavy, the user needs to keep that in mind once the unit is installed on the ladder. Overall: Five stars for quality and user safety. ... show more

I have never liked heights and now that I'm getting older, climbing up on the house is a job I dread. Stepping off the side of a ladder to get on the roof and even worse coming back down just scares the heck out of me. I picture a broken back as I fall to the ground. Anyway, I stumbled onto this item and when I saw the price, I had to think about it awhile. When I considered 1) what I would have to pay someone to do the job on the house, or 2) how much a trip to the hospital would cost, and especially 3) How much my life was worth to me, it was worth a try. I have a Werner 250lb. capacity, 24ft aluminum extension ladder. The side rails measure 3" x 1". The Guardian was a little big for these rails and I cut out a plywood spacer for each side to make the fit better. This might not be necessary, but made me feel better. After tightening the adjustment knobs this thing fit tight. The Guardian is very well made (much stronger than the ladder it is going on). Now the true test, going on the roof. This thing is fantastic. If you are the least bit nervous stepping off a ladder on a roof, you will not believe how much better this is. To me, it is well worth the price ($150) and I wish I had known about it sooner. Seriously, the amount safety you gain using this makes it a must buy. Had very high hopes for this product. Have a standard Werner 16’ extension ladder, probably one of the most popular extension ladders. Couldn’t get it to go over the top. Tried whacking on it with a rubber mallet. All I did was flake the powder coating off in huge chunks. Had to actually cut off the rubber bumpers on the ladder at the top. Then I was able to get it on. It tightened up well, and it did make getting on and off the roof much easier. Just wish they actually tested it with the popular ladders. An extra 1/2” in depth would have made installation effortless. Also, I was not able to get it to go all the way down to hook on the top rung like the cutout is used for. Still it was pretty sturdy. Made in China. Obvious Chinese quality. Be nice to make it in the US for an extra few dollars. The welds were not that great. I sure hope one doesn’t break when I am going up and down... ... show more
