This Hydroponics has us hooked! Works incredible! We planted different herbs and baby lettuce which was actually ready to eat within 3 weeks or less? Making our own small salads is beyond awesome! Knowing where our lettuce is grown is pretty important. Especially these days! Having fresh herbs growing in the kitchen easily is such a cooking "plus." I still need to learn how to manage having almost too many herbs. Drying them perhaps? The booklet that comes with the system is quite helpful. Seeds are not included but not expensive at all. The light when on is pretty bright and the fans aren't noisy but probably would not want it placed near a sleeping area? Basic care is making sure the water level stays normal, using nutrients every week or so and snipping the plants. Basil really grows high! The light can be raised when plants get taller. We're planning on getting a 3 or 4 level in the future.

Great value, Growell delivers again!

This thing is awesome. I own 4 other units from other brands and this is easily the best, for the simple reason that the light can be adjusted to ANY height and not just a fixed minimum height. You can have the light an inch away from your seedlings if you want. Great for herbs, lettuce, etc. but I probably wouldn’t try to use this for tomatoes or peppers, as the tank isn’t very large, which is the one drawback. Note that the feet of the unit also aren’t non-slip, so you’ll want to put something underneath if the unit is on a slick surface (easily remedied by a some small adhesive rubber pads. Depending on your climate, a small aquarium heating stone for the tank may be worth it (I add these to all of my units) and a tiny air stone helps accelerate plant growth too, but not a necessity. My other Growell unit is one of the giant 3-tier 81 plant carts, so it isn’t like I expect similar results from this, but for the money this is an excellent value for a nice little unit. Last thing: the fertilizer you get with this thing will work fine, but I’d recommend getting better nutrients. Your plants will love you for it!

So good I bought two!

Bought two of these and I have an abundance of fresh herbs year round. Basil LOVES this system! The only herb I haven’t had good success with in the hydroponic system is rosemary. I even have strawberries growing on my countertop. This spring I used this system to start my tomato and pepper plants indoors and I successfully transplanted them into soil outside. Low maintenance and incredibly easy!

Mostly happy, a few flaws

I think this product is easy to use and produced most of the seeds I planted. There are a few notable exceptions. It didn't come with enough caps to cover the openings for the pods that you weren't using. It has 16 openings and only came with 6 caps. I had to order additional ones from a third party vendor. That seemed short sighted. Also it's incredibly difficult to tell how much water is in the growell. It very dark and hard to see. We had to shine a flashlight sideways to somewhat discern where the water line is. This seems like a pretty obvious design flaw especially since the water level needs to be checked every week. That's why it's getting a 4 and not a 5. Other than that it's well made, was super easy to put together, choose which lights (vegetable or fruit) and looked so pretty when all the plants were growing there. I recommend this product but be prepared to use a flashlight for the water line and order the extra caps when you order the Growell.

There is no way to insert the light pole into the device per the instructions. I’m also annoyed bc it says “everything you need to start growing herbs, etc” only THERES NO SEEDS ! Yes, I realized that when I went back and read all the way to the bottom of the description it says (seeds not included) but they certainly buried that info. I am pretty adept at putting things together but this was impossible. Very annoyed.
