  • Excellent, QUIET air flow. FINALLY!
Size: 6-Inch PRO, Speed Controller
DAY 1: WHY I BOUGHT THESE I bought these hoping to find a 6" fan that could move some air gently, without causing the sound and fury of a small cyclone in my recording studio. With voice over work, extraneous noise is a problem. So is heat, and air!, because VO rooms are usually completely closed off the the outside world. They get hot and stuffy without proper air flow. This is the answer. I have tried 6 different claimed-to-be-quiet fan solutions via Amazon and YouTube reviews... this is unequivocally the best for my situation. I unboxed and hooked one of these up (not to my room, because that will require some ducting and electrical changes) in an untreated echo-y basement room with a hard tiled floor. So no mounting yet, no ducting yet, just the fan on the floor with its 10-level USB-C controller, and me holding my iPhone running the app "SPLnFFT" noise meter at about 12" above the center of the fan, airflow running unimpeded from left to right on the floor, The iPhone was held level so I could read the display. Here are a few hasty values. Starting point: Fan at 0 = 30db (A) This is the room's noise floor when nothing is turned on. The meter terms this level as "Almost Silent". Fan at speed 1 = 37db (A) The meter calls this "Very Quiet". Fan at speed 2 = 45db (A) The meter labels this "Quiet." Fan at speed 3 = 53 db (A) "Comfortable" Fan at speed 4 = 60 db (A) "Moderate" ASIDE: Note that these levels are purely "in the moment," not carefully measured. Use these approximate numbers as a rough estimate only if you are similarly seeking a quiet, controllable fan solution. I did "round off" to the nearest dB, so 37.2 became 37. Keep in mind I intend to use 2 of these fans, 1 to send fresh air into the booth from floor level, and 1 for pulling warm air out of the booth above eye level. I don't want a wind tunnel, simply fresh air moving through the space via insulated, flexible ducting to help keep the air flow noise reduced as it travels into and out of the booth. I anticipate that once installed, I can record spoken/sung material without concern for air noise. Even at speed 1, the air flow felt pretty good. At the next higher settings, it grows noticeably stronger. I only ran through speed settings of 0 to 4, because at 4, I figured I was getting to "you're gonna hear this" territory and decided not try any higher settings. I would not record with air flow noise. But I did step though the rest of the settings, because the fan controller only increases the speed (no going down, only up) until the step after 10, which is off, so I got hear and feel those levels even though I was not interested in measuring them. A pair of these fans will clear the space pretty easily. THE FUTURE: AFTER THE INSTALL, and LONGEVITY I plan to return and update this first-look review with genuinely measured results once the booth is complete. That will likely be another few months because... life, family, and holidays. And if anything fails (controller, fans, whatever) I'll update this then, too. ... show more

  • VERY HAPPY WITH PURCHASE!!! Are there MORE starts to give?
Size: 6-Inch PRO, Speed Controller
We bought another brand that was cheaper at first but it was very loud, Advertise as quiet, with no speed control. Even though they are offered after market. But. After doing A LOT more research, this one was said to be 1 of if not, be quiet is 1 on the market. Here's the good news. I was able to not only get the same size Fan at a quieter decibel, but I only need to use 40% of the power for it to be efficient enough to work for me, adding wattage savings as well. I barely hear It. I have to listen for it to hear it! Great product!!! No need to wait or still shop. I've done the hard part for you. This is the one you want!!!!!!! ... show more

  • Engineered craftsmanship
Size: 6-Inch PRO, Speed Controller
I purchased this to use on the exhaust hose of my Firgidaire 1300 BTU portable air conditioner sku#312540281. By my reading of the specs the airflow of the two units matches up. With both running at full power the AC is noticeably louder than the fan. The fan seems to make the ac much, much more efficient. I don’t know about power consumption. But the cooling continues to function even after many hours of constant operation with this fan. Normally these portable AC units begin to fade away soon after they begin full high operating temperature. I think that this is in part due to all of that heat in the exhaust hose. This time I did something about it. The fan comes on and turns off gradually (stepped). The built in stepped on and off feature actually works very well with this AC unit. I turn them on and off at the same time. By the time the AC has opened it’s external intake louver and (sounds like) internal exhaust valve this inline fan has ramped up to speed. Then when it is time to shut down the AC the inline fan runs for a few seconds as it stepped down to the off mode. This extra run time allows for clearing the exhaust line of some remaining excess heat. I have the fan installed some distance from the AC. So the long wired remite cable is handy. I just set the wired remote on top of the AC unit. The fan remote LED let’s me know the fan is alive and operating speed. The display indicates the fan speed with a white circle of LED lights. Number of lights indicates fan speed. It is convenient to have the power button for both units on the same surface. Wanted to point out something that I had not seen in other reviews that I have read. I believe that the default mode for the fan is to fail into half power. Here is what I mean. I got this home and just wanted to plug it in and get it running. And so I did. Fan came right on after plugging it in. It was running. I looked for how to control the speed at that point. Ooh no! The control wire came to a plug at the end. Sudden panic! I must have bought the wrong unit. Now I have opened it. I own it. Damn! Ok what kind of control box do I have to buy now. Wait. No, no… YES! There is a wired remote in the bag!!! So I hot plug it in to the open plug. My momentary Crisis has been averted. Fortunately for me once again, this fan is engineered well enough that nothing fried from my lack of consideration for my new tool. (Note to user: maybe turn off unit before plugging in wired remote. I mean it worked hot plugged. But this may not be the best standard for future operating procedures.)The remote indicated that the fan was running at half power from the time that I had plugged it in headless. Some days later after observing the AC and fan operating together to assure myself that they would cooperate under full load at 100% duty cycle for extended time. It occurred to me what a smart feature this is to have the fan fail to a 50% operating mode. If for some reason the remote becomes damaged or disconnected, the fan does not go dead (to 0%). My AC can be trusted to function unsupervised with fan remote failure. I am going to this length to write this feature description out because I believe that is that important. It would be easy to overlook this critical safety feature. It may not even be something you would consider when you are shopping for ventilation. I certainly never considered how this unit might behave in modes of failure. I think emphasis should be expressed here for those of you that may be incorporating this piece of equipment into operations where it would be critical to maintain operation of the ventilation system. This feature could be the difference between success and failure. The stepped on and off could also ensure longer life of seams and such that maintain pressure separation in an area or thru ductwork. Gradual increase/decrease of the pressure gradient = less maintenance and greater overall structural integrity. The fan is not slamming seams with 100% and deflating instantly to 0%. The fail to 50% and the stepped on and off features of this unit seem to indicate solid engineering practices. This random internet user highly recommends this product based off of initial operational observation. ... show more

  • Good quality
Size: 6-Inch PRO, Speed Controller
This fan is strong and quiet. I’ve had one going for 4 years now and it’s still very quiet. I had 3 fans from different companies and all of them only lasted about 3 months before becoming so loud they could be heard outside by the road or burnt out. Thankful for this fan and other ac infinity products being high quality if it wasn’t I probably would have given up on indoor gardening. ... show more
