  • The Best Chuck I have used!!!!!!!!!
This chuck is GREAT!! It is vastly supperior to the PSI chucks and Equally as good as the One-Way. That is right people, It is just as good as the 250.00 dollar one-way chuck. It took me a long time to find and use this chuck but now that I have found it, it is the only one I will buy. If Money is TRULY no object to you then I would probably go with the one-way just for the name, but in my opinion you are not getting anything more with the one-way than with the Grizzly. I am actually kinda upset with PSI and One-Way now that I have found this chuck cause now I Know good chucks can be made for much less than they are charging. I now own THREE of these and will only buy them. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. I have not had any thread stripping problems. But that doesn't mean it wont happen in the future but Grizzly is solid and I am sure they will help me out if something happens. Good luck and good turnin! ... show more

  • It's a OK chuck for the price, could be better.
I'm a retired machinist so I've worked with a lot of different chucks over the years. I didn't see a 4 jaw scroll chuck, or self centering chuck, till I started getting into woodturning. I have a Nova G3 chuck and I've never been able to figure out why they deliberately limit the chucks capacity by making the screw on jaws so they only use half of the master jaws travel. That's the only thing that makes this a better chuck. The add on jaws are small enough that you can use the full travel of the jaws. I don't have the exact measurements with me, but I'll add them later. My Nova chuck only has about 1 3/8 jaw travel and there's a gap between their #1 jaws & #2 jaws, and between the #2 & #3 jaws, that they will not hold. Which means you have to limit your work piece to the sizes the jaws will hold. Or, get another set made to cover the gap between the other jaws. So to cover all the range between the chucks smallest to its maximum size it will hold you have to have at least 5 sets of jaws! 6 if you count the Cole jaws for bowls. And if you don't want to keep changing the jaws every time you change the size of your work piece by more than an inch, you have to get several more chucks. So to save time you end up with at least 6 different chucks. This chuck has over 2" inches jaw travel doubling the size range of what you can chuck on without having to change jaws all the time. And there is no gap in what their different jaws will hold. Even better, there's plenty of over lap in their size range. One other thing that I really like about this chuck is its handle turns the right way, clockwise, to tighten it! The other woodturning chucks I've tried all turn the wrong way (counter-clockwise to tighten) compared to all the chucks (and about everything else) I've used in the machine shops I've worked in. The things that I don't particularly like about this chuck is its pretty loose. When they made it they set the tolerances wide open on the machining. I mean the thing is so loose that when you shake it, it rattles. The jaws wobble and rock back and forth and there's a lot of slack in the scroll gear that runs the jaws in and out. Its really sloppy in its function, is about the best way that I can put it. Which isn't really all that bad except for one thing. If you have a piece chucked in it and do a lot of turning on it, over time it can work loose. So you need to stop and tighten the chuck every now and then. As for the chuck key, mine came with a 5/16 Allen T-wrench for it. It actually takes a 8mm. and that is still a little loose fitting. And like one other guy said, the screws that hold the jaws on are a bit short and undersized for the job. So that makes this really a light duty chuck and I wouldn't trust it to hold any thing even close to as big as the Nova G3 or SuperNova2 chuck. And probably the PSI chuck of the same size. Overall with everything considered it's a OK light duty chuck for the price. It's biggest plus being the extra jaw travel over the other chucks. If it was machined a lot tighter and at closer tolerances like the others and had a little bigger screws holding the jaws on I would give it 5 stars. As it is, I can only give it a 3. And the only reason I'm giving it a 3 is the extra jaw travel. If it was the same as other chucks I would only give this 1 star and send it back. And as for sending it back, I had to send back the first one I got. The #4 jaw with the stop pin would barely run out. The hole for the stop pin was drilled off center and the slot on the back of the jaw that was supposed go over the pin rub so hard on one side it made the jaw go cockeyed. I'm still waiting on my refund and to see if I had to pay the shipping to send it back and a restock charge. ... show more

  • Excellent quality
My first bowl chuck. Been using it for 45 days now. Works very well for me. No problems with holding the material, no issues with closing or opening the jaws. Very solid, spins true.

  • Great customer service who back their product.
Great product, exactly what I needed. Although the box was damaged in the shipping resulting in missing parts, Grizzly responded promptly to the issue with great customer service and replaced the missing tool.

  • Close to 5 star
Nice and sturdy. Better than the midi nova. Only issue is with the tightening of the jaws...they seem to grab. They do not advance smoothly. If they moved smoothly, a definite 5 star

  • Fantastic!
This is a really good deal. The ad doesn't do this item justice. This chuck could probably sell for three times this price! Buy it dude.
