Description

The Southland Harmonic Overdrive is built on the Lightspeed Organic Overdrive platform, we have developed what we believe to be the best overdrive on the market. The Lightspeed was built with the specific purpose of being a light to mild overdrive. The Southland is the next logical step for the Lightspeed platform—more gain, with two stages of clipping (utilizing different diode types for each stage of clipping), a focused midrange (not that annoying “hump”), and a bit of presence on top of the signal, to help cut through the mix. The Southland Harmonic Overdrive, like the Lightspeed, is touch sensitive, responds to pick attack, and has dynamics that just won’t stop. On top of that, we’ve selected a chip to drive the Southland that takes it to the next level. I am really loving this. I use this pedal with a Jazzmaster through a deluxe reverb and it really does give you a little extra dirt and definition as opposed the the light speed. I prefer a bit more of a scooped sound, but this one is just right. I didn’t find that it paired all that well with the light speed as the description says, but then again, maybe it just doesn’t work with jazzmasters. Or, maybe it just wasn’t my sound. I do find that this pedal pairs very well with the Yellow Cake Fuzz Burrito and the Earthquaker Devices Westwood. Both pedals are more mid range driven and the Southland kind of blends nicely to knock off some of the mids a bit. I run the Fuzz Burrito into the Westwood into the Southland as seen in the image. Greer is one of the best pedal manufacturers for players who want clear, transparent sound. The Southland has more gain than the Lightspeed and it sounds a bit different in voicing (so it's not the Lightspeed with extra gain... this is its own thing). It works great with my Friedman amp when amp on low gain setting and I add the Southland to layer the gain. Southland sounds even better on Fender amps (probably designed specifically to use with Fender). Great, great pedal. ... show more
