Cleaning and storage is easy, so your purifier will be ready for your next adventure! And GRAYL stands behind each Purifier we sell. Trusted Purification Technology We take the health of our customers very seriously. Each production run is tested at an independent, third-party laboratory for effectiveness against bacteria, protozoa and virus. Technology 1 - Two layers of non-woven ceramic fiber, which provide a rugged and durable base. Technology 2 - Positively charged mesh of ions (aka - little magnets) that grab onto impurities as they flow by, using a scientific property known as 'ion exchange'. The positive ions in the media bind to negative charges on pathogens and chemicals. The impurities stay inside the cartridge and clean water flows through! Technology 3 - Activated Carbon absorbs flavor/odor and many chemicals and heavy metals, so your water safe and tastes great. Built for harsh environments: Purifier cartridges contain two layers of this media, to enhance impurity removal and to provide a second layer of protection during your adventures. Safe Water for Any Adventure Trusted by adventurers, travelers and preppers Unlike mere water filters, which only remove bacteria and protozoa, GRAYL Purifiers add protection against virus, plus many chemicals and heavy metals. GRAYL is a proud member of 1% for the Planet. We'll donate 1% from your purchase to environmental nonprofits. Thanks for helping us make a difference. International travelers throw away millions of single-use plastic bottles every day, very few of which are ever recycled. Each Replacement Purifier Cartridge displaces 300 single-use plastic bottles.

  • Dont buy, unreliable product! And expensive
I am in asia right now, and traveling to a provincial part of the phil, where Drinking water is in question, last time intraveled here and drink their water, I got sick for 3 wks. And thats the reason I bought this product. But today , on the day I am to leave for the trip, which I only use it for a day, since I just got here, , this thing happen, the filter is broken and the end part is stuck inside the bottle, now what am I to do, this is really ridiculous, this product is unreliable and so expensive that I trusted the quality. I hope anyone from the company or amazon that sold this product this will contact me and refund my money, and the inconvienience that this will cause me on my trip tomorrow. This is really upsetting! If theres a no star Ill give it a no star! ... show more

  • Worked great for fresh water in Nepal
Got this for my trip to Nepal Because the water there is unsafe to drink and I don't trust the bottled water there. I have to say I was very impressed with the build quality. Nothing about it feels cheap. Me and my gf were there for over 15 days and every drop of water we drank was from this bottle. I mostly filled it with hotel tap water and neither of us got sick. The water even tasted good! Worked perfectly. And the best part is, Next time I need it, I will just buy another filter. I'm not sure what some other reviewers said about it being hard to press, I had no issues. Yes you have to lean on it, yes it takes some force. Put on your big boy pants! ... show more

  • Great for travel; easy to use (despite what some reviewers say)
Contrary to what some other reviewers say, this Grayl water filtering bottle is easy to use. If you've ever used an Aeropress coffee maker, the pressure required to filter water in this product is similar. Since you're forcing water through a micro-pore filter, it's reasonable for total filtering time to take about 30 seconds. Remember too to not: (a) palm the entire top of the bottle, not allowing the air to escape; and (b) filter the water with the top screwed on (duh!). Also, it helps considerably when you slightly twist the inner "bottle" when you filter or separate the two main parts. Things I like: the non-slip rubber o-ring at the bottom of the bottle, the tall "lip" of the inner bottle to minimize the chance that your mouth comes into contact with the potentially contaminated outer bottle, the clear rubber o-ring built into the top, which helps prevent leaks. Things I don't like: It would have been nice to have a flip top like many travel mugs have. An older model had this feature. Also, I wish there was a stainless steel version available which I could use with near boiling water (which is how many restaurants or vendors serve water in Asia). Again, an older version had this, but it's not available for sale now. Understandably, steel dents but you could surround it with a plastic outer layer. Overall: I'm very satisfied with this product. I will buy 1 or 2 more for my parents when they visit Southeast Asia later this year. ... show more

  • Clean Water, Clean Conscience
I was going to Cuba and thought about purchasing a water purifier in lieu of having to buy plastic bottles of water. I read a bunch of reviews and it seemed like the GRAYL was the best choice although it seemed expensive. Then a friend told me she had taken this to Africa and drank out of a river without getting sick! I immediately bought it. Another friend pointed out that the GRAYL would cost more than bottles of water for the whole trip which made sense but I have no regrets. I just feel good about not leaving behind a pile of plastic and at the same time drinking incredibly clean water that tastes great. I got the orange and I love it. Also, it fits perfectly in the side mesh pouches of a backpack. ... show more

  • Great filtration system for backpacking
Update:have to revisit this review because I was severely disappointed in this product the second time I used it. The first hiking trip went well filtering water over a couple days. It was a little tough to push filter down but tolerable. I cleaned per instructions and stowed away till my second trip which was a 35 mile hike in the mountains of South Dakota. This filter was extremely hard to push down and filter water...it literally took five minutes of all my weight to get the water to filter through. I don't know if I got a defective filter but it did not come anywhere near the 40 gallons of water it is supposed to be good for. At this rate 5 minutes for 12 oz of water did not suffice on our trip. It was a good thing we had our sawyers as a back up. Very disappointed in this product and at this price point I would not recommend this product. Had high hopes but just not right if your serious about back country hiking. Took this backpacking /hiking filtering water from streams, creeks and rivers. Never got sick, water tasted fine. It was a little tough to push down but is worth the effort to drink freely instead of out of an online filter or suckling through straw...the cup allows for mixing in some flavorings as well. It was decent size but wished it filtered more ounces and was cheaper on price. All things considered this is my new favorite filtering/purifying system! Buy without hesitation this product is good. ... show more
