Not only is using this saver around higher voltage and higher current wires like what comes into your breaker box, but it can also prevent damage from some outside problems. I was a tech in Houston in the 80's and later a Public Utility engineer in the Midwest in the 90's. Clamp style multimeters mimic what some high current services use to detect usage. A meter is not capable of handling high current for commercial services, so they use some donut shaped devices for each leg incoming wire or sometimes copper bars. Instead of direct contact it is an inductive coil that senses the magnetic field and can measure current that way. This is how the clamp on meter is operated. The meter itself would fry in seconds if used in super high voltage or current situations, so it's using clamp around the wire to measure the magnetic field strength to figure the values. Note, it's fine for most commercial services which generally top out at 480 Volts, but never try to use on a power line which may be many thousands of Volts and the insulation of this meter would not protect you at that level. Besides power lines your buried service comes from a box like transformer that is fed by the same voltage in overhead high voltage lines so do not use there either. This is a full functional multi-meter to detect Current, Voltage, Resistance and other measurements. It's easy to use and has a lighted display. You might need to know a bit about electricity before using it though. This can help detect at the service entrance a dangerous condition that sometimes happens where one of the power legs (conductive wires) is shorted and causes the home voltage of 120 V to float as high as 160 volts or higher. If you see lights or the TV doing weird flickering or brightness, this could be the cause and it will damage most modern-day electronics. This can determine that without risking direct contact. A good buy and lots of other uses for diagnostics. Recommended.

So, the unit itself seems to work great and has so far been great. All functions are easy to use and work properly. I was unable to get the app to work, which is a pain. I'll try again but was not even able to create an account to use it. Since this is advertised as a major feature this could be a dealbreaker for some. For me, the simple features that I use are simple enough to use with the unit itself so it is good for my purposes and the price is right.
