I was shopping for an electric scooter for my 4' 8" daughter. I almost considered buying a full size scooter, but they are really meant for kids 13 and older. In addition, there are many more controls which could overwhelm someone coming from an unpowered kick scooter. You can limit the speed to ~9mph, but it's easy to override if you have a curious enough kiddo. We looked at some options from razor, but they were either too expensive, or too awkwardly styled for my daughter's tastes. This is where the Gotrax GKS fit the bill perfectly. It is priced *very* reasonably for a well built electric scooter. Assembly was a breeze, four bolts to hold the front wheel on, and four bolts to undo and redo to put the handlebar on. I also like that the handlebar is keyed, so it self centers during installation. After that, we put it on the charger for the initial 5 hour charge. Well, we tried to wait 5 hours, but after 2 hours, the light on the charger was green, so I let her go for a quick spin down the street. Her first impressions: - Very easy to ride, the switches on the deck were easy for her to push down and required very little adaptation from how she used to ride her kick scooter. - Shockingly quiet. We both thought it wasn't working at first, but then she accelerated off with nary a whisper. - Acceleration is smooth. She was pretty happy with how softly it accelerates after you kick off it. - Easy to brake. Having a brake just like her old kick scooter made it easy for her to feel safe with braking. - Feel heavy. At 17 pounds, it's not light, but she doesn't mind the heft. It's a bit more effort when pushing around unpowered, but it does seem to glide fairly well. I'm glad we didn't go with a bigger scooter, from what I saw, the ones were were looking at were 27-30 pounds. - Looks pretty cool. She loves blue, and this has enough blue to make her happy. I even asked her if she was going to sticker it up, and she surprisingly said that it looks good as it is. We'll update this review over time once we get a better idea of battery life and reliability, but so far, we're off to a great start.

We purchased one of these scooters for my son to cruise around the neighborhood on. Soon his friends all wanted to ride it as well, so we got a second one so he could always have a buddy! Despite the fact that the scooter is marketed to adults, my 10 year old could ride it perfectly. The scooter is easy to assemble. It only requires connecting the brake cable. Tires came pre-filled with air, and the battery was fully charged. There are two gears, first and second. This is a nice feature because you can leave it in first gear for children or an adult who might be worried about topping out at the fast speed. (The scooter still takes off in second gear, so it's not like something you have to shift into while you're riding.) The LED headlight is nice but I wish that it flashed as a way to attract the attention of oncoming cars. There's a reflector in the rear, but no light. I may consider adding a flashing rear light for commuting. It's winter here, so I have not tested the range on this scooter, so I cannot confirm the mileage. Batteries will be effected by the colder weather, so you may see a decrease during cold days. The scooter is heavy. Not heavy enough that a child couldn't ride it, but a little more than a child could pick up if you were folding it over and trying to carry it up stairs. All in all, this is SUCH an improvement over the old Razor electric scooter my son had. That scooter was loud, slow, and the acid batteries couldn't hold a candle on these Lithium batteries. This scooter is quiet as a mouse and accelerates evenly and smoothly.

Bought this scooter for my son for his 13th birthday a couple of months ago. He's a big kid and he appreciated the sturdiness of the scooter, the speed( (though he wants a faster one, that's not the fault of the scooter), and the battery life. Unfortunately I had to knock of 2 stars because of the tires. He went to ride it one day and the rear was flat. I inflated it and within an hour it was flat again. I'm a bike mechanic and I quickly diagnosed a leak in the tube with no damage to the tire. This is where things got fun. The tire is very hard to get off, and the tools I used resulted in additional damage to the tube so I couldn't tell where the original leak came from. I also marred the wheel and tire considerably. Through some online research I went with a tubeless "honeycomb" style tire so as to not have to deal with an unexplained flat again, but getting that on took all my skill, patience and strength. Now that it's done I feel like the speedometer isn't correctly calibrated, but my son is happy. GoTrax advertises the pneumatic tire as a "feature", but it's a disaster waiting to happen. ***UPDATE. Following this review GoTax reached out to me and offered a replacement tire for free, which I accepted. Because the changing process is still difficult I'm only giving 1 star back, but I appreciate the customer service.

Highly recommend the GoTrax XR Elite. It is perfect for our 8 year old son - he is 4ft 7in for reference. When we received the scooter, we could tell it was charging but it would not turn on. I reached out to GoTrax customer support and Lydia from Gotrax Support Team was very helpful. She had a new console sent to us in a timely manner and that fixed our issue.

The Gotrax XR Elite is super reliable and smooth to ride. The honeycomb tires never go flat, the 300W motor has good power, and I get close to the full 18-mile range. The lights are bright, it folds easily, and the build feels solid. Perfect for daily rides or commuting!
