I purchased this Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation) on November 10th, and while it looked great out of the box, it has already become a "dumb" thermostat. The WiFi module has completely failed. This is a known, widespread issue with the Gen 3 units (often referred to as the w5 error), rendering all the "smart" features useless. I can no longer control my HVAC from my phone or integrate it with my smart home system. Here is the most frustrating part: because this was a refurbished unit, Google/Nest refuses to offer a replacement or repair. I am essentially stuck with a faulty wall ornament. Do not buy a refurbished Nest thermostat. While the price tag is tempting, these units clearly have a high failure rate regarding their internal WiFi chips, and you will have zero recourse when it inevitably breaks. Save your money and buy new, or choose a brand with better support for their hardware. ... show more

The thermostat looked like new. I wired it up as per the instructions and then I let the battery charge for about 30 minutes prior to completing the installation. Good for a refurbished product. When it works it is great. Ordered two, one didn't work, would not connect to Wi-Fi. Replaced it and it worked but only lasted a few days and failed to connect again. Replaced it again and so far it is working fine. Hopefully they last... Seller was very responsive with the replacements, no issues there. ... show more

Exchange with the old gen 2 Nest was straight forward and easy. The process was less than 10 minutes. It even came with the screwdriver and wall plate. The Gen 2 lost WiFi connectivity earlier this year although it was perfectly fine.
